Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8 Once again, Johnny Dixon is supernaturally posessed and it's up to eccentric Professor Childermass to rescue him from evil forces. The professor enlists the aid of Johnny's friend Fergie in a desperate search which climaxes in a confrontation with an evil wizard's spirit in a spooky churchyard and an exorcism. This story is only mildly scary, and the plot bears an uncomfortably close resemblance to Bellairs' earlier The Curse of the Blue Figurine (Dial, 1983). Many characterizations are not fully developed, with the notable exception of the lovably cantankerous Professor Childermass. Unfortunately, his comic foil, timid Johnny, is in a coma for the better part of the book. Definitely not one of Bellairs' best, but above average entertainment for young readers, and as usual, Bellairs skillfully incorporates educational tidbits into his narrative. Customer Reviews

It was a fun-filled and entertaining book. It had character.5
I think this book is great for all ages even though the reading level is not very difficult. An adult could have fun with it because it is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your chair. I would reccomend this book as a good book for a class. They could share their insights and tell each other if they thought that they figured out the mystery. This book is great for a discussion. This is an imaginative and literate mystery that I have fully enjoyed. It really makes you think and explore your mind.
