Khris Cochran's The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects for Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding provides inspiration and projects for save-the-date cards, invitations, jewelry and accessories, ceremony decorations, programs, favors and more. Cochran, who founded the website DIYBride.com, also provides a cost comparison to show how much a similar item would cost if purchased in a store, allowing busy couples to decide whether it would be better to buy or make certain projects. A hair ornament for a flower girl, for example, costs about $5 to make but would cost about $40 to buy. The DIY Bride provides clear instructions and suggests whether a project could be completed by the couple themselves, with the help of the wedding party or with members of the family, offering clever ideas and the potential for fun invitation-building parties with friends. Customer Reviews
Best DIY wedding book! (so far)
By the time we get married, my fiance and I will have been engaged for 3 years (longer than we've been dating)! We pushed the date back in order to save money to pay for this party. Had this book been available earlier, I would have gotten married sooner with all the money I would have saved! I've purchased other DIY wedding craft books, but this is by far the best! The projects are fun and hip unlike some other books that have projects that look like they are straight out of the 80's. Some of the best features of this book are (1) the resource guide in the back--it lists many different websites and stores where the materials can be purchased, (2) the money-saving clues for each project (it lists what the item would cost if you purchased it from a vendor as opposed to DIY--I love knowing that I'm saving money!), (3)skill level and time/manpower needed (it lists whether you can complete the project by yourself or if you should enlist the help of family members, maids, or fiance), (4) the step-by-step instructions with visual aides for those of us that need visual cues, and (5) the timeline in the front of the book lists when you should purchase materials needed by and what projects should be completed first. I definitely would recommend this book as I already plan to do several of the projects! GREAT BUY!
Classy Crafts
I am not much of a DIY person (I am not a fan of the "homemade look"), but the end result of the projects in this book definitely don't look homemade. I found the projects in this book to be easy, creative and classy. As a wedding planner, I have encouraged my clients to use this book when they want a high-end look at a low-end price. Great job!
Good Book-Neat Ideas
I really like this book. I found some good ideas for a seating chart and creative table numbers. The plus is that they are easy to do and the author's instructions are simple to follow. I bought a pre-cut cupcake stand for $30 and was a little miffed to find one in here I could've made for about $15 or less. If you are looking for some fun DIY projects before the wedding that are not ridiculously difficult (hello Martha Stewart) then this is the book for you.
