Now an absolute classic, this is a rigorous, intellectual defense of animal rights. Regan is a philosopher and those new to moral philosophy might find it a bit of a struggle to get through. It is worth it though. And if you don't want to struggle, no worries, his more accessible work Empty Cages is excellent too.

A compelling call for compassion from a conservative perspective. As a liberal, I am heartened to find support for the compassionate treatment of animals coming from a different quarter.
