Scientific Explorer's series of great science kits includes Fun with Your Dog. It's a nifty way to learn about animal intelligence through fun experiments. Perform ultrasonic sound testing with a bona fide dog whistle. Put together a pair of "dog glasses" (says the manufacturer: "See the colors your dog sees..."). Conduct a "personality interview" to discover your dog's temperament. The taste-testing experiment, which features a kit for baking delicious dog cookies, will reward your pooch's patience and cooperation. Scientific Explorer kits are both fun and educational and have won several awards. --Chris Livesay

Lots of fun and educational too!
I thought this was a wonderful kit for my eight year old daughter and nine year old son. It entertained them for a few days and I think they learned a lot too. The kit comes with a science guide with a whole bunch of different experiments and fun activities. The most enjoyable part (for the kids at least) was the dog sunglasses that they made, which let you see the world in the same colors that your dog sees. Did you know that dogs only see in red? Lucky, our dog, thought it was all great fun too. The kids really enjoyed baking dog cookies and Lucky loved eating them.
I would definitely recommend this kit - especially for parents who want to spark an interest in science for their kids. I think it would make a good Christmas gift.
Wonderful Science Fair Preparation!
I have been trying to get my third grade daughter interested in entering a science fair for two years and thanks to this kit I have found something that interests her enough to consider it. The dog whistle was the most fascinating (I thought those things were a hoax!) and worked well. We taught our dog, Yoda, a new trick by following the project on sense of smell, and we all enjoyed baking biscuits in a variety of shapes. Yoda gives them 5 stars!! A good value and a great way to learn about "man's best friend". It has encouraged study of other animals as well.
Not very fun or interesting...
I got this kit the year before last. It looked very interesting from the packaging, but when I opened it I was not impressed. There are not very many experiments in here. The glasses were interesting for about 1 minute, until I looked through them. The dog biscuit recipe was nice, however, but the other experiments were not very interesting at all.
