ADEQUATE AT BEST
It is somewhat difficult to rate this product, as it has both pluses and minuses.
On the positive side:
1. The 5.6" screen is a real plus. I'm glad I got that size and not something smaller.
2. It does a good job showing upcoming turns and intersections.
3. It recalculates routes quickly.
On the negative side:
1.When the unit is first turned on, while it sometimes finds the satellites in a few minutes, it often takes 15-20 minutes. I have not been able to discern any real pattern as to how long it takes to find the satellites. For a while, I thought that putting the vehicle in motion before turning the unit on caused the problem, but now I am not sure that that is the case.
On a recent trip through Alabama, it had the satellites, then lost them for about an hour before finding them again.
2. It cannot find a location by road intersection. This would be a helpful feature.
3. Elevation is given in yards ASL. What good is that? I don't know of anyone who uses yds ASL.
4. I am not sure what time zone ETA is in. It appears to be in Pacific Standard Time. I have not found anything that tells for sure what time zone ETA is in or if it can be reset to my local time.
5. Included with the unit is a DVD with instructions and backup maps. That would be fine IF my computer had a DVD reader. They should also offer a CD.
6. The unit sometimes is slow to recognize that I want to take a by-pass around a city rather than going straight through like it wants to do.
As to the company itself, I am not sure what is going on there. The Quick Start Manual contains a Registration and Order Form, but no address on where to send it and no shipping/handling cost table. Also, I sent them an e-mail six weeks ago asking some questions and have yet to receive a reply.
Given the relatively low price for a unit with a 5.6" screen, perhaps I shouldn't expect a lot out of it. However, a little bit of software improvement would make for a lot better unit.
Large Screen the only positive.
While it is a nice looking unit, it is slow at startup, not very user friendly, the email address in the hand book is not correct, the phone contact number is hard to get throuh to, the service support is poor and why it always launches on a site in Brooklyn, NY is beyond me.
For the money it will pass, it was the allure of the large screen that drove the purchase, but next time I'll go with a brand leader.
entertainment !
this is a nice looking unit, nice picture, but is slow, hardly get on time the signal from the sattelite, sometimes you can ride for hours and that still in nowhere, (stays in brooklyn by the way), the time that i have signal i was in the highway and the gps was showing me in another place, anyway, i think just for entertainment, in a few words, look impresive when is on, that is it!
