Customer Reviews
Excellent, at least for a native...
First, a disclaimer: I was born and raised in Sao Paulo and lived there until my late 30s.
For me, at least, when I went back 10 years later, the experience of driving assisted by the City Navigator is comparable to driving in Atlanta assisted by the nuvi 760.
Of course, I don't always follow the "suggestions", here or there, especially when it takes me away from a "known" way.
My brother, who still lives there and inherited my 250W+Navigator absolutely loves it and said "I was able to try new ways to go to places with all confidence". Of course, this is his first experience with a GPS (I am a 10 years veteran...)
Decent maps but unlocking process confusing, only for 1 Garmin Unit
My family is moving to Brazil and we purchased 2 Garmin units. One for each of our cars. I purchased this map add-on and it does have good coverage of the country. But I have a number of frustrations with the product:
1. After having spent close to $1,000 on 2 mid-to-upper level Garmin units and close to $100 on the map I find out it can only be unlocked for one Garmin unit. I realize Garmin needs to protect against people just passing the software around to others but even when going through my on-line registration that has both hardware units registered in my name they wouldn't let me unlock the maps for my second Garmin unit.
2. The "unlocking" process is extremely confusing. What should be simple and is simple for so many other products seems very "1990's" with Garmin.
3. Uploading the maps to the unit is also not simple. I purchased the product to upload all of Brazil. But the PC software needs to you select which regions of Brazil you want to upload. Once I figured it out the process was easy, but getting to that point could have been much simpler.
In summary, I'll use it because I need it but for the amount of money I've spent with Garmin I am not satisfied.
This product can get you killed!
These maps are just accurate enough to lull you into a dangerous false sense of security. If you are used to the accuracy of U.S. maps beware! In the first day of use in São Paulo (Brazil's largest metropolis) this map dumped us in dead end alleys, unpaved roads unfit for automobile traffic where paved alternatives are available, illegal turns, directed us to turn where there is no crossing. Though sold as a new product the copyright is dated 2007 but apparently the map is considerably older. Do not trust this map.
