Great starter kit
Honestly the tripod and the small tripod are pretty bad. The tripod is functional but wobbles when you extend the boom. The filters are good and I've worked with them and gotten good results. The 300mm zoom is great. Even if this kit doesn't include the APO lens it is still great. If you take a look at the Sigma site you'll notice the aberration difference is minimal. I've used the 28-70 lens in replacement to the stock 18-55mm Canon XTi lens. It is smaller, but nosier. Its performance is very good and has a respectable response time in auto focus.
The bundled bags are great too. Specially the Samsonite one as the other bag has trouble fitting the 300mm lens when its on the camera. And obviously you'd have it on the camera as there is no room for anything else. The Samsonite fits the camera with the 300mm on and an extra lens. Be it the 70mm or the stock 55mm.
I give it 5 stars because even if some of the items are not even 2 stars the whole kit is certainly 5 star given its price. There are other better lenses. But none give you these benefits for such a low price.
Great stuff and a great deal
The lenses are great. These sigma lenses have a better build quality than the Nikon kit lenses. They're also faster f/2.8 vs f/3.5. Only negative is they do not have built in focus motors so they use the camera's. This means slightly slower and not silent focusing. Not a big deal in my opinion. The 28-70 is wide enough for most and the reach on the 70-300 is amazing.
As for the rest of the accessories. Cheap no-name (digital innovations) but they get the job done. The filters aren't as coated as they advertise and i get some lens flare when using them with bright light sources. Both cases work great. First large tripod they sent me was junk (see next paragraph). Mini tripod suffices for the 28-70 but will not hold up the 70-300 lens. They neglected to send me the software CD but no loss as the same kind of program is available as freeware.
Make sure 47th street camera sends you the right stuff. I had to call in and request they send me a better tripod (advertised as 60" here but they sent me something smaller and without a geared center column) They ended up sending me a free 70" opteka tripod which as I said is great. They also sent me a cleaning kit without a blower brush but they fixed that without a hassle as well.
All in all, a great deal for great camera accessories. 47th Street Photo is easy to work with but make sure you get what you pay for.
Great value.
So much stuff for the money. Lenses feel and work smooth, zoom ring turns the opposite direction as my canon lenses, takes a little getting used to. The long zoom really gets you close to the action, and the macro feature lets you zoom in really tight without being right on top of your subject.
