Customer Reviews
They serve their purpose...
This kit was complete with a heavy-duty wiring harness, a relay, a switch, and a set of the Halogen Projector fog lights. The Installation was a PITA because of the holes on the Lights not being threaded, but the screws are self-threading (you just have to get them started). Lighting output is decent, not brilliant, but definately an improvement on my 2006 Nissan Frontier. These are far more brighter then the stock fog lights that came with this truck model, and about $100 cheaper too.
Hella Micro DE Foglights Not Worth The Money!
I've been using a set of Hella Micro DE Foglights for two seasons now. Mounted under the front bumper of a Honda CRV. One of the lights is OK and the other is completely ruined from corrosion, starting from the inside of the magnesium body housing. The electrical contacts inside are destroyed, the interior of the housing is very oxidized, and there's several significant holes, completely through the housing itself, caused by corrosion. I contacted Hella direct and was informed that 1) the warranty was only for one year 2)the problem was my fault for incorrectly installing the light. I was also informed that if the "protective coating" on the outside of the light was compromised that road salt would destroy the magnesium housing. My side of the issue: 1) I installed the lights exactly as pictured in the manual that came with them. The weather seals are perfectly tight and in the proper position 2) the "protective coating" is nothing more than a powder coat paint. The 'coating' on the light that remains in good working order is about half worn off and there is no sign of damage from corrosion. 3) there is no information in the owners manual pertaining to the possibility of corrosion problems.
These lights are intended to be exposed to harsh weather conditions and should certainly last more than a couple of winter seasons.
The Hella factory rep said that they have installed 'millions' of Hella lights as original factory equipment on new cars and have had no problems. That, no doubt is due to the fact that they are for the most part installed in weatherproof housings and farther up above the road than the mounting instructions in the manual that came with my lights shows. DON'T WASTE MONEY ON THESE LIGHTS OR SUBSTANDARD CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Bad design
As mentioned in previous reviews, these lights do not have threaded holes for the brackets to mount to them, with the included screws. Due to this it is very hard to get the screw started, so you cant test fit the locations very well. I have no idea why they designed them this way, but I ended up not even using the lights. They are sitting on a shelf in my garage. Not happy with this design at all. I expected better from Hella.
