![]() The sleekly designed RIZR V3 slides upward to reveal the phone's keypad. Sliding it open reveals a surprise--an artfully abstract tattoo. |
![]() Virtually all the phones functions can be accessed via the five-way controller on the slider and function buttons on the side. |
The RIZR Z3 takes the standard slider-style form factor to the next level with a sleek profile, and a unique, spring assisted opening design. It also takes familiar style cues from the wildly popular RAZR flip-phone. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors dominates the top of the slider. The 2-megapixel camera lens is discreetly housed on the upper backside of the phone, safely tucked away until ready for use. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side for volume control while a voice button on the right side of the unit allows you to enter voice memos and create voice dialing profiles. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. A charging port and USB data cable port is placed on the bottom of the phone. Lastly, a memory card slot is included, allowing you to augment the RIZR's 20 MB of built-in memory.
Calling Features
The RIZR Z3's internal phone book can hold up to six phone numbers and three addresses per entry, while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3 ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone. There's even an included application, MotoMixer, that lets you mix your own ringtones. For times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear while voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. And because the RIZR Z3 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation. Lastly, the RIZR's voice dialing feature makes calling family, friends, and business associates as easy as saying their names.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The RIZR Z3 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client. The RIZR also comes stock with a built-in web browser for downloads and mobile web browsing.
iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. With its Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be easily used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs for high-speed data transfer over the supported EDGE network when coupled with a carrier data plan.
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the RIZR Z3 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, and it can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.

As mentioned, hidden behind the MOTO RIZR's eye-catching design is a powerful digital camera that features an LED flash, brightness control, and a night mode. With a dedicated side camera key and a landscape viewfinder mode, you can hold it and use it like a digital camera. Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or send them to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. Frame-worthy pictures be sent from the phone directly to your printer via PictBridge technology.
The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message, or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The RIZR Z3 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy.
When the feeling strikes you, jam out to your favorite music on the RIZR's advanced music player. And because the RIZR sports a convenient memory slot, you can bring along a ton of tunes--the unit supports cards up to 2 GB (memory cards sold separately). Lastly, Java support is built into the RIZR, making it a powerful gaming companion. You can also use the handset's USB data connection to load more games and files onto the phone.

Very nice phone
I bought this phone off of Amazon this past December, and I am actually very happy with the phone. Voice quality is way better than my last phone, a Nokia 6010, and people have never complained about my voice on the other side. The mp3 player on it is amazing, and it is really easy to transfer songs onto the phone, if they're mp3. It won't play WMV files or anything else, but mp3s work well. I especially like its ability to transfer files over Bluetooth, which is very quick and easy. My only minor concern with it, which is why I gave it four stars, is that there is just a little tiny wobble on the rising part when it is in the up position. Everything else is fantastic!
Excellent Slider
PROS: As I write this review, QuickTime Pro is in the background converting episodes of The Office to MPEG-4 to watch on my new RIZR (yes, it works beautifully). I bought a 2Gb microSD card as well so I've got plenty of storage available. I'm THRILLED that I didn't have to sign up for another 2 years with at&t. I own a Mac, and SallingClicker (Google it) works flawlessly as a remote control for the computer.
CONS: One thing that frustrated me at first is that you can't assign ringtones to people in your address book if you have them stored on your SIM card - but the phone allows you to select them all and move them to your phone (took about a minute to move 250+ contacts for me). Reception isn't quite as good as I'd hoped, but I think it's better than my last phone (a free phone from at&t). Menus take some getting used to, but I hear all Motorola's are that way.
All in all, thank you for a great new phone!
Great phone
I purchased this phone some days ago and I must say I am very pleased with it. First off, I would like to point to the fact that Amazon.com sells it at a measly $107 when its original price is almost $300. True, that price was set at its release but $107 is STILL the lowest price anywhere (compared to this same phone being sold at nearly $200). Now, with regard to the phone it is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Call quality is above average. I will not say it is awesome because it's not, but it is very reliable and clear. This phone is extremely good for media. It can take unpaused video and pictures, and hhas a very decent music player. The camera can be set up to 2.0 MP and it is perfect for pictures on the go and still have great resolution on them. It even has a LED light included for pictures while in the dark. I must say though, even though the camera is awesome (it is)it doesn't perform nearly as well in places with few light. The LED light will only help if there is extremely low light, but I always find myself in a limbo between not enough light for a picture without flash and not enough darkness for a picture with flash. Despite that, I still find myself constantly taking pictures XD. Another cool feature is the fact you can increase the memory storage by adding a 2 GB SD card. I bought mine with the phone and find it perfect for lots of music and pictures. Overall, a great purchase. If you are looking to buy a great phone which is very cheap, look no further. If that still doesn't convince you think about this: it is unlocked AND ready for amazon prime shipping. That was a deal maker for me :D. Enjoy!!
