From Publishers Weekly
Bestselling author Quick's ( Rendezvous ) latest lovers are a pair of bibliophiles whose engaging qualities should help her many devoted fans overlook this work's fatal flaw: it is an unconvincing attempt to draw a parallel between a Regency romance heroine and a medieval hero on a quest. Lady Phoebe Layton's "quest" is to track down the person who killed her suitor, Neil Baxter, and to "bring the villain to justice." Neil was making his fortune in the South Seas, where he reportedly was killed by a pirate who stole an old and valuable book she gave him; rumor says the book is back in England. Ignoring the fact that real questers don't delegate, Phoebe persuades fellow book collector Gabriel Banner, Earl of Wylde, to find the rare tome and the murderer. Phoebe's growing attachment to Gabriel prompts him to consider using her to seek revenge on her father, who, eight years earlier, ruined Gabriel and drove him out of England--to the South Seas. Quick expends little effort on this revenge scheme, which is in no danger of coming to fruition; as a result this fantasy castle seems built on a foundation of sand.

Fast paced romantic adventure in a historical background
RecklessIf you haven't read Amanda Quick this is a great book to start with.
I was entranced from the very beginning of this entertaining historical romance. There is plenty of suspense, humor, romantic moments, and action to make any reader happy.
I couldn't put it down I read it in one night.
The heroine has a handicap that her family tends to overprotect her about but she goes about her life letting nothing get her down. Her history shows the strength of will that makes you respect her as a individual person.
The leading man hides his ability to write, and his experiences as a youth scarred his outlook on humanity.
I strongly recommend you read all Amanda Quicks books but this is my favorite.
Anyone else starting to see this pattern?
I've enjoyed Amanda Quick ever since I found a copy of RAVISHED at my local thrift store. I immediately snapped up everything I could find by this author. Now I'm wondering why I bothered.
My problem is that I'm starting to see the same pattern over and over: the hero falls in love with an unconventional, fearless lady. He is intrigued by her because she is unique. He then marries her, and proceeds to try to bully her into being like everyone else. Huh? If you wanted a woman who follows the rules of society, then why did you marry one who never has, and probably never will?
I found Gabriel so mean in this book. I was beyond disgusted when he calls Phoebe a "reckless, naive, impulsive little fool." And what was her sin? She saw a man following her while she was shopping and was able to lose him in traffic. This was foolish? She thought the man might have been a thief, a rapist, or a murderer. I thought her actions were clever, not foolish. When a strange man is following you around, you're supposed to just let him? Okay...
And even if she had acted foolishly, I don't think calling her names was justified. Yes, I know that in history, men owned women, but reading about a guy who loves to throw his weight around just because he's a man is not romantic to me.
Quick's books always start out good, then fizzle away. The hero is usually wonderful until he marries the heroine, whereupon he immediately morphs into a posessive, controlling jerk. Sorry, but this is a sad scenerio that happens all too often in real life. I'm not about to read it as a "romantic" escape. I think I need to take a long break from this author. This is at least the fourth book in a row that has ticked me off for the same reason.
Very Sexy!!
I love these 1-title books from Amanda Quick. I know they are not a series, but each book has some similarities, but she always keeps it fresh and very sexy!!
