must set video output on ipod5
I got this recently so the kids could watch their shows loaded on the ipod on the TV. Audio worked fine but I couldn't get video at all. Had it back in the package to ship back to Amazon and then found the following instructions on another website:

The AV Cable allows you to connect your iPod/iPhone with color screen to your home entertainment system. Now you can view your videos, pictures or slideshows with audio on your home television.

Setting Up Your iPod Video Options Before Watch iPod Video on TV
1.Turn on your iPod, choose Videos -> Video Settings from your main iPod menu. This screen will show three settings: TV Out, TV Signal and Widescreen.
2.Select TV Out, make sure you select "On" that will produce TV signal.
3.TV Signal: If you live in the U.S., your TV works with the NTSC standard. European countries mostly use PAL.
4.Widescreen: You can choose "On" to produce a widescreen signal (16:9), or "off" to export the traditional TV output (4:3).

SO...after changing it to "TV output ON", it works! Shows downloaded through a website other than itunes are a bit fuzzy (they look fine on the ipod screen which is much smaller, also fuzzy in full screen on the computer). Shows downloaded from itunes are sharp and clear on the TV. Also used this to hook up the ipod to my stereo, works great for that also.

Does NOT work with new iPods, like 3rd gen iPod nano !1
It's not enough to say "for iPod" anymore. The new iPods that came out in September 2007 are different in many ways. This cable will NOT work for a 3rd generation iPod nano. The reason is that you cannot set "tv out" to On on an iPod nano unless the proper cable is plugged into the dock connector. Plugging a cable into the headphone jack (which is where this cable goes) will not allow you to change the "tv out" setting. For more info about this bad decision by Apple, just google < ipod nano "tv out" setting >, and read about "TV Out locked in new iPod classic and nano". Yes, apparently this cable will not work with the new iPod classic, either. The cable that works is apparently the one that Apple will sell you for $50.00. Yup, FIFTY.

Compatibility Issues with New iPods4
This cable DOES NOT work with iPod Touch, or 3rd Generation Nano. It will play AUDIO, but WILL NOT display video. Apple has gone the route of locking out their products to only 1st party and 3rd party licensed accessories. They will not allow you the option to set "TV Out" unless the "proper" cable is used.

The cable is very sturdy and is made of good quality materials. On the back of the packaging, it says "WORKS WITH 4G AND 5G iPod WITH COLOR SCREEN". I give my rating based on the quality of the cable material, and price, but I cannot test out the quality of the video output since it is not compatible with my iPod Touch. In order to watch your videos on the TV with the Touch, you will now have to shell out $50 or so to buy Apple's overpriced cables and accessories.

AGAIN, NO VIDEO OUTPUT WITH THIS CABLE FOR 3RD GEN NANO AND IPOD TOUCH.
