The 12th Box Set of Naruto bridges Seasons 6 and 7 of the hit ninja comedy-adventure. While Naruto waits for Jiraiya (a.k.a. "Pervy Sage") to return to the Hidden Leaf Village and continue his training, he goes on a series of short missions that allow the filmmakers to develop some of the secondary characters. Shy Hinata, who nurtures a secret crush on Naruto, proves she's an able warrior in her own right with a spectacular new jutsu of her own creation. Rock Lee, who can't use magical techniques, proves the efficacy of his exhaustive physical training by fending off the lightning-wielding Raiga while unconscious. Director Hayato Date plays the drama of the battle against Raiga and his lightning swords against some unusually broad comedy. Lee, Tenten, Neji, and Naruto use a little old lady's "Curry of Life" like Popeye's spinach: It restores consciousness, heals injuries, and builds fighting power. But it's so incredibly spicy, only Lee enjoys it (and even he turns scarlet after the first bite). Naruto blows the mission to capture the rare Bikoshu Beetle--literally and figuratively--with a badly timed attack of flatulence. An outdoor test for a class of student-ninjas showcases both Naruto's bad habits (his idea of living off the land is to stock up at a convenience store before heading into the forest) and his unshakable determination. The characters have a different look in these episodes that suggests Studio Pierrot changed ink and paint systems and, possibly, some key clean-up artists during production. The Special Edition comes with a "mininja" figure of Rock Lee. After Teaming Up With Team 8 And Now Teaming Up With Team Gai Here Comes The Mayhem
Seeing this coming to stores and online I immediately ordered this uncut box set for my Naruto collection. The set will of course deal with the final episodes of the quest to find the Bikouchu beetle and use it to locate Sasuke, and team 8's battle with a rival team who are trying to capture the Bikouchu as well. These episodes will deal with the crisis of a village rich with their own gold mine but sadly is taken over by a bunch of rogue ninja lead by one of the seven swordsman of the mist. The one thing I truly love about these uncut box sets is just that they show the blood caused by the injures in battle or stick with the language that some of the censors thought was to inappropriate to listen to on American t.v.(Adult Swim). Like always these box sets have clear and sharp pictures no distortions to worry about and the voice cast for both the Japanese and English cast were incredible. So for all Naruto fans rejoice for the coming of this box set, and if you're a stickler just waiting for those Naruto Shippuden episodes to come out just look at it this way were coming close to the home stretch...
Naruto is entertaining and teaches kids values of honor & responsibility.
We have every Naruto boxed set and we purchased them after having seen the shows on cable because we wanted to be able to watch them over and over again. The kids love Naruto and so do I. The kids have the books, the action figures and the role-playing costumes. As a parent I particularly like the values of hard work, responsibility, and overcoming adversity portrayed in the cartoons.
Continuing Naruto's filler episodes
*Note that the following review may contain spoilers*
The twelfth set of Naruto starts off with the two episode conclusion of the search for the Bikochu beetle. Because these episodes are not based on the manga little, if anything, can actually happen to advance the story. After the conclusion of the beetle arc we are introduced to the next filler storyline, dubbed "The Curry of Life." This is another six episode story involving one of the seven swordsmen of the mist, who Naruto and company hope can provide them with some information on the whereabouts of Kisame and Itachi (all for the purpose of finding Sasuke of course). The two main villians in this story arc, Raiga and Ranmaru, will remind you of Zabuza and Haku. Ranmaru's outlook on life is so similar to Haku's that Naruto is actually reminded of Haku and a small flashback ensues. (At one point Ranmaru, like Haku, calls himself Raiga's tool in which to be used.) The highlight of this story would have to be the last episode "Run! The Curry of Life" in which we get to see Lee's drunken fist again. After all is said and done no crucial information is gathered about Kisame or Itachi that would assist them in their search for Sasuke.
At this point we have six episodes left. The episode following the Curry arc is a single standalone episode involving Naruto taking Konohamaru and his pals on a practice survival mission. Next we have a two-episode story in which Naruto and company are to apprehend a thief by the name of Gosunkugi. Continuing still we have another standalone episode featuring two would-be imposters who decide to stalk and impersonate Guy and Rock Lee when they are out on a mission for the purpose of infiltrating the leaf village in order to steal the village's secret documents. Wrapping up the twelfth set we have the first two episodes of another story involving some sort of apparition terrorizing the land of birds. Naruto and company are sent to the land of birds to investigate.
Overall this set was a step down from the previous and I would have given this set 2 1/2 stars if I could have but felt it was closer to three stars than to two. The animation is also pretty bad. There are more than a few scenes in which characters will be running and their faces wobble from side to side like jello. I can only recommend this set to those who just want their collection completed.
