Editorial Reviews

Quill & Quire, June 2000
...today's prospective writers would do well to refer to Adamec's comprehensive guide to the industry.

Coast Independent, September 10, 2000
It is a thorough feet-on-the-ground manual for success in the non-fiction field.

From the Back Cover
The writing life has always held an aura of glamor and mystery for many people. As a writer, you meet famous and intriguing people, learn and write about fascinating topics, and set your own hours. But along with the glamor comes hard work. Writing is a business, and to be successful, you have to become an effective self-promoter, an able negotiator, an adept researcher, and a talented writer.

Sound daunting? Not at all, if you follow the advice provided by Christine Adamec, an established freelance writer. Adamec clearly provides the key elements to lead you to a successful writing career. She will help you decide if you have the mindset of a freelance writer and will painlessly guide you through the steps on your way to profit and (possibly) fame. You can easily cut years off your path to success with this book, as you follow the advice on what you should do and learn to steer clear of errors commonly made by new writers.

Some key topics covered in this book are: - Personality traits and skills of the successful writer - Who hires writers and how do I find them? - How much should I charge? - How do I set up interviews and what questions should I ask? - How do I write a book proposal that will be noticed by publishers? - Where does the Internet fit in?

Customer Reviews

Not the Best Book for its Price2
This book does contain a lot of the basics, and it does draw on a lot of the author's personal experiences, so it may be of use to new freelance writers. However, while this book gives a good overview, it's a short read without a lot of specifically helpful information. For a list price of $19.95, I expected more. If you want to spend $20 on a book, I'd more highly recommend "Freelancing for Dummies," "The Well-Fed Writer," or "Make a Real Living as a
Freelance Writer," and all of which are available for around the same price.

Very basic3
This book is a short read that really works more as an overview. I gave it 3 stars because there isn't the wealth of details like you'll find in books like "The Well-Fed Writer," "How to Start a Home-Based Writing Business," "Freelancing for Dummies," "Make a Real Living as a Freelance Writer," etc. With so many books out there that offer more info for the same price, I just can't recommend this one.
