Editorial Reviews

Review
Crawford has created what is probably the most complete book of forms for photographers. His contracts are safe and easy-to-use. -- ASMP Newsletter

Every photographer needs this book. If you don't add this book to your library you may regret it later. -- Shutterbug

From the Publisher
Both the manner and business of photography have changed in recent years. Technology has opened the door to new equipment and opportunities, as legal and economic changes have altered the way photographers find and perform jobs. Today's uncertain financial climate has emphasized the age-old need for photographers to negotiate and meet deadlines and budgets, while legal tools for protecting their work have assumed a new urgency. Help is now on the way. Attorney Tad Crawford has fully revised and expanded the industry classic Business and Legal Forms for Photographers, third edition, to help photographers organize and promote their businesses as well as minimize legal vulnerability.

For all of the most important transactions any photographer is likely to undertake, this volume contains thirty-one business and legal forms, step-by-step instructions, advice on standard contractual provisions, thorough discussion of contractual issues relevant to the industry, and unique negotiation checklists to help photographers operate with the highest standards of professionalism.

From the Author
"Attaining the knowledge of good business practices and implementing their use is an important step toward success for any professional," Crawford observes.

The third edition of this esteemed guide has been updated to cover electronic rights' issues and includes five new forms for trademark application, employment application, employment agreement, restrictive covenant for employment, and project employee contract.

Customer Reviews

Tad Crawford Does It Again5
Tad Crawford has written a whole series of books out of his expertise in the law and creative arts, with a special focus on photography. I'd suggest looking at Tad's other books, too, since this one is more action-focused without extensive explanations of the whys and wherefores of it.

"Business and Legal Forms" has the documents you'll need, such as Wedding and Portrait contracts, model and property releases, copyright transer forms, publishing contracts and stock photography forms. His descriptions are very helpful. Of greatest practical use, though, is the included CD-ROM containing MS Word documents of all of the forms.

If you're just getting started in photography, you need this book!

Great Book!5
Great book as a reference tool. Why reinvent what others before us have used? Using actual forms and a CD to personalize, this is a great tool for all photographers.

An Invaluable Resource5
I didn't originally buy this book to "read". I bought it for the invaluable resources inside - the wealth of forms that any photographer needs to protect their work and their business. What makes this book so enticing is you don't have to photocopy, or redesign any of the forms since they're all included on a CD that comes with the book. That being said, I should mention that I was quite surprised at the thorough explanation for each form, and the situations where each form might be needed contained in the book. A person could undoubtedly pay hundreds (probably thousands) in legal fees assembling the information in this book on their own. This book is a photographer's "legal-resource-in-a-book". I highly recommend it.
