![]() | Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy by Mayo Clinic
Buy used from: $13.88 This is the best book I found in terms of a general pregnancy book -- it is up-to-date, has all of the basic information most women would want to know, and it doesn't seem to have "an agenda" the way a lot of other pregnancy books do.
If you're wondering which book to buy first, this would totally be the one I'd recommend!

![]() | A Child Is Born by Lennart Nilsson
Buy new: $14.28 / Used from: $8.98 This book has amazing pictures that show everything from the sperm and egg to each stage of prenatal development. The text also does a really great job of explaining the science of what is going on, far better than any general pregnancy book.
Some of the pictures are a bit on the graphic side, but even just flipping through this at the library or bookstore is an amazing experience.

![]() | The Pregnancy Journal, Revised Edition: A Day-to-Day Guide to a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy by A. Christine Harris
Buy used from: $6.75 Not only is this a great place to record your pregnancy experiences, it has day-by-day info about what's going on. Unlike similar books, it starts at day 1 (conception), and has interesting info for each day all the way through.
The spiral bound, format makes it easy to write in, and it does a good job of balancing facts, tips, "fill in the blank" questions, and space for journaling.

![]() | When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, Revised Edition: Proven Guidelines for a Healthy Multiple Pregnancy by Barbara Luke
Buy new: $13.57 / Used from: $5.94 This book mostly focuses on how to manage your nutrition to have the best possible outcomes for both mom and babies during a pregnancy with twins, triplets, or more. It also has some more general information about multiple pregnancies, but the nutrition information is the meat here -- and is absolutely worth it.
Even worth a look for moms of "just one"!

![]() | Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More! (La Leche League International Book) by Karen Kerkhoff Gromada
Buy new: $12.89 / Used from: $12.30 While the title of this book might make you think it is about breastfeeding, it is actually a great all-purpose pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting book about having multiples.
There are a lot of books out there on this, but I found most of them seriously disappointing -- many were outdated, mostly repeated what is in any general pregnancy book, or just weren't worth reading.

![]() | Defining your Own Success: Breastfeeding After Breast Reduction Surgery by Diana West
Buy new: $19.56 / Used from: $14.55 This is the only useful book I've seen about breastfeeding after breast reduction surgery, and it really does a great job. The majority of the book would really be useful for women who have had any type of breast surgery and are worried about breastfeeding successfully.
Some of the information in the book is now out-of-date, and the author has updated information on the website (www.bfar.org).

![]() | Knock Yourself Up: No Man? No Problem: A Tell-All Guide to Becoming a Single Mom by Louise Sloan
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $0.01 This book is part memoir, part "how-to", with the bits in between filled in with the stories of other single mothers by choice that the author talked to.
Totally a worthwhile book to read, even if this isn't a choice on your table.

![]() | The Baby Name Wizard: A Magical Method for Finding the Perfect Name for Your Baby by Laura Wattenberg
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $5.00 Easily the best baby name book out there, and is especially useful if you are either having multiples or are looking for a name for a 2nd/3rd/etc child. For each name in the book, it also has suggestions of good sibling names that go along well.
I also appreciate that it has a number of unique names, but doesn't try to cram in 1,000,000 names and overwhelm you with mostly useless choices.
|
![]() | Heading Home with Your Newborn: From Birth to Reality by Laura A. Jana
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $9.18 I know some people might question the value of buying a book that really only focuses on the first few months of a child's life, but I absolutely considered this a worthwhile read -- enough so that I bought a copy, even after I'd checked it out from the library and read it cover to cover.
It covers feeding, sleep, how newborns' bodies adjust, how to deal with common medical issues, etc.
