After 3 Months Of Regular Use, It Broke2
The Kettler Rear Bicycle Basket has some problems. Primarily, the spot welds wear out over time. After 3 months of daily use (mostly groceries, about 5-10 Lbs), the welds which connect the bottom brackets to the basket itself simply wore out--the brackets are the lower handles shown in the picture provided by Amazon. Now, there is no way to attach the basket to my bicycle rack. I believe the bumps and vibrations of my daily ride slowly weakened these welds to the point that they detached. The basket had other problems as well (over uneven pavement, it would occasionally fly off and tumble into the street), but the poor welding is what ultimately rendered the basket totally unworkable.

I would not recommend this basket.

Kettler - oh..........wow5
I bought a Chicago Schwinn ladies bike for the purpose of grocery and other shopping. Then, came the time to find the best way to carry stuff (actually ended up doing a search for Kettler, since I know it to be a highly respected bike brand in Germany). I had no idea of how I wanted to do it....then I saw this basket. It made much more sense than a basket mounted on the front of a bike (wind drag and weight distribution). Mounting it requires attaching it to a rear carrier eg. Pletscher, or one of the more currently available carriers. This combination of the easily removable (springloaded clamp on bottom of Kettler basket grips onto the carrier) basket and having the Pletscher carrier gives you all kinds of carrying possibilities. The Kettler is beautifully constructed and does attach firmly - however the ends of the clamping devices have to be correctly aligned (they are subject to rotating when it is off of the bike [eg. carried in stores when shopping]. My de facto preference is to also use a pair of bungee cords to prevent things from possibly bumping out of the basket or moving around (same with any basket).... 18" cords will hook onto the carrier in front -> basket -> rear of carrier, making everything absolutely bomb-proof. It all works very well and I'm totally happy with this Kettler product......oh, and it IS handsome. I haven't seen anything that favorably compares to this basket

Great idea!5
What a treat! This basket quickly but snugly attaches to the rear rack of a bicycle, and you can remove it just as easily. It accommodates a couple of plastic bags of groceries. With its pop-up handle, you can take it into the grocery store as your shopping basket. A great idea, well executed!
