Customer Reviews
Startled, but could understand well.
In reading this book I didn't really know what to expect. I began to ride the roller coaster of the story line and had to put the book down for a minute to tighten my belt. Off I went again. Up and down the mental, physical, and spiritual ride in words set before me. Rev. Wren's life has surely been no picnic or bed of roses. It is very much similar to many others that have been in this type of predicament. The only thing that is for sure is that she is one of the few survivors mentally, spiritually and physically. She reminds us to think of those that we may know that may not be here today because of someones drunken, drugged up, or sexual rage or tensions. So many today are being found in places no person has a right to be, especially children.
Rev. Wren had the strength and the fortitude to be able to move on through adversity and to shine through the cloudiest of days. Her faith has shown us that we should never give up no matter what may come our way and that even if the grass isn't greener on the other side of the street, it surely is somewhere.
May Rev. Wren have continued success not only with her own life, but also with raising the consciousness of those around her. To teach others that there are better ways to live in this world. To allow those that have been soulfully hurt that it is ok to walk away and seek help. To know that this is a brand new day and an open mouth is much better than a closed one.
Compelling and Emotionally Charged
The author has written a compellingly honest depiction of her life as a child and young adult who suffered emotional, phsyical and spiritual abuse. A Plain Brown Wren is an emotionally charged account of Ms. Wren's struggles and her fight to overcome the conditioning and abuse she received that confused her personal boundaries and self-perceptions. It brings hope to the reader through her description of her healing journey and spiritual transformation.
For anyone that has experienced sexual abuse: this book is an acknowledgement you are not alone, a voice for those who need to speak their truth and an affirmation that God can heal all wounds.
I highly recommend this book. It touched my heart and soul and this reader was not able to put it down until it was finished.
A Story of Triumph
A Plain Brown Wren will resonate with anyone who has ever felt victimized, betrayed and abandoned. Told in a bluntly honest, straightforward manner, Rev. Wren's memoir of personal triumph reads like a conversation with a close friend.
At times I cried, laughed and felt anger as I read her story. I felt as if it purged me of some of my own issues as I acknowledged and then released my pain. One of the most beautiful aspects of the story is how Rev. Wren turned her painful past into a way of helping other victims of abuse.
There's nothing plain about Rev. Wren now. She's soaring with the eagles.
