Diversity is more than just a buzzword for Donnie McClurkin. As shown by his massive success both inside and outside the U.S., the right reverend from Long Island embraces many stylistic approaches (and languages) as he delivers his brand of gospel. It's never more evident than in Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs, a McClurkin double-disc live worship celebration. Opening with Robin Mark's "Days of Elijah" and McClurkin's own "I Will Sing," a praise-and-worship motif sets the stage for later similar tracks like Michael W. Smith's "Agnus Dei" and the medley "Draw Me Close/I Am Thine Oh Lord." Backed by a 40-piece orchestra and a powerhouse choir, McClurkin closes the opening disc strongly in tandem with the legendary Richard Smallwood on the classic "Total Praise." The second disc is dedicated more to traditional gospel with tracks like "I Love To Praise Him" and "Jesus Medley." McClurkin livens up the fare with the "Language" medley, singing in English, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish, ending the string with Joann Rosario as they duet on "Saciame Senor Yo Se Que Estas Aqui." You shouldn't miss the bonus cut here as well with McClurkin and Kirk Franklin teaming up for a slick and pleasing cover of the 70's soul classic "Ooh Ooh Child." The offering is generous on Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs and Pastor McClurkin holds nothing back in this fire-and-ice worship celebration. --Michael Lyttle

The most amazing mountaintop worship experience of my life..5
From the first night I played this CD, it has become a key part of my private devotional time with the Lord. I usually play my CD's in the car and on my computer at work - but not this one. The heights of worship and praise I reach with the Lord through this CD is for my private time only. I cry. I lift my hands. I bow my head. I speak in tongues. I dance. I stand to my feet. All within the time it takes to get through just the first CD in this 2-CD set. God deserves all the glory and praise and Donnie McClurkin uses his spiritual gifts to help you give God just that.. The "blood" section with the old classical church songs pushes me over that precipice time after time. God be praised!

I Don't Know What MEB (New York) was listening to....5
...but Rev. McClurkin moved me to the point that my hands were up in praise at my desk before I realized it. I would advise MEB (New York) who gave this album one star to take another listen to a well orchestrated live performance. If you don't bring any wood to the fire, don't complain about the lack of heat.

A Bridge Maker5
This was a very good project. My favorite songs on the album are "I Call You Faithful" which flows into "Great and Mighty Is Our God". Then it goes deeper into worship with the songs "Only You Are Holy" and "Agnus Dei". I also like the song "Draw Me Close/I am Thine O Lord". I always wanted to hear a gospel singer remake the song "Draw Me Close". The first seven songs are pretty much the only ones I listen to right now. Which is really good, since on a lot of albums I may only find 2 or 3 songs that I listen to a lot.

After that he starts singing old melodies, but I do like the song "I Know it was the Blood." The pianist did a good job and Donnie definitely put some life back into those old songs.

I also like the songs "Language Medley" and "Sáciame Señor/Yo Se Que Estás Aquí". I'll probably end up listening to those two more in the future.

This is a good bridge making album for CCM audience, worship audience and traditional gospel. It also can be a good bridge maker between the generations. The people that would normally wouldn't buy a traditional gospel album (like me) gets to be exposed to something from the past, while the older/traditional crowd can be exposed to something new. It's also a good bridge between the nations.

So like I said, it's a good album. You should be able to enjoy at least one song.
