Product Description

The "Prince of Praise," Byron Cage, has done it again, this time with a star-studded recording event at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY. Live at the Apollo: The Proclamation brings gospel music back to Harlem, and to the very stage that introduced the world to such early gospel music luminaries as Sam Cooke, Aretha Frankling, The Dixie Hummingbirds, and countless others. This disc contains an amazing collection of songs, masterfully rendered by Cage and produced by gospel's heavy-hitting trio, PAJAM (J Moss, Paul Allen, Walter Kearney). Cage is joined onstage by fellow gospel sensation, Kim Burrell, and by his labelmate, R&B star turned gospel balladeer, Dave Hollister. April 26, 2007 was truly a night to remember as Byron Cage took Harlem's historic stage and left it forever marked with his stamp of rousing, soul-piercing gospel music.

Editorial Reviews

On his third solo outing since the dissolution of Purpose, the talented gospel funkster seems stuck in a bit of a rut. The album lacks the frenetic energy of 2003's Live at New Birth Cathedral or the cohesive praise elements of 2005's Invitation to Worship. Live At the Apollo: The Proclamation on paper has a lot going for it. The Proclamation was recorded live to an enthusiastic and sold-out crowd at the legendary Apollo in Harlem in late April, 2007. The recording process was overseen by celebrated production team PAJAM, while a literal "who's who" was on hand to sing and celebrate, with Kim Burrell, Dave Hollister, Donald Lawrence, Dr. Bobby Jones, J Moss, Crystal Rose, and others. Now, everyone has off nights, but why release one as an album with a pretentious title like The Proclamation? Let's hope this record was just a bump in the road for Cage. --Mike McGonigal

Somethings Missing3
As a gospel music lover and a supporter of Byron Cage's Ministry, I have to be honest and say - I think somethings missing on this album, it just doesn't hit you like his last ones have. A staple of Byron Cage's has always been that one for sure HIT i.e. Presence of the Lord, I Will Bless The Lord, etc. This album doesn't have it! It is a quality album, I'm not sorry I bought it. But its just not the best I think he could do. The best song on it in my humble opinion is "Royalty." None of the fast songs other than "With All Of My Might" really moved me, though "Proclamation" was decent. I hope the album will grow on me though! Now I'm just looking forward to Ricky Dillard, James Hall, and Youthful Praise's releases in October. It's time for the CHOIR COMEBACK!!

Give This Album A Chance4
I wanted to agree with those with negative comments on this album, because I was also disappointed when I heard the snippets of it. However, when I listened to the whole album, I was truly blessed by it.... just like I was blessed from Byron's other albums. B. Cage sang his heart out as usual, Kim Burrell sang her jaw-dropping runs with perfection as usual, and J. Moss held his own after her. Noel Hall played like I've never heard him play before, so the music was very good. I agree that the backup singers left more to be desired, but they still brought out power in their voices when they needed to. I would have given it 5 stars if they had better voices, but it is still a quality album. Please give it a chance!

Blessed5
After reading the reviews I thought I'm not going to spend my money on this CD, however a still voice over rode what I read and felt. Hey I'm no musician, however I have lived long enough, been through enough for most things to reach my inner man. Byron, I am blessed and encouraged by this CD, just as I have been blessed with your others. The songs have ministered to my soul and spirit. I guess for me, since I've been through so much perhaps it doesn't take a whole lot to know when nourishment has been provided for my inner man. I don't like salmon but it sure gives my body the necessary protein I need, so again I've learned so much in my processes. Thanks for blessing me. God Bless You.
