Young Dreams Fulfilled?
Meet the Three Virgin Musketeers, Miranda, Terri and Cheryl. Share in the big adventure as young Canadian small town friends help Miranda fulfil her long-held ambition to see Australia. This touching coming-of-age tale takes the reader into the mindset of these romantic young ladies, revealing the strong parental influence on their lives, particularly that of Miranda, as they struggle to find their niche in life and, hopefully, their soulmates. But it's not all giggles and girlish frivolity. Stuck in an unrewarding dead-end job Miranda becomes the victim of a violent sexual attack, the trauma made worse by her inability to talk it through with her parents. As her friends rally round, Miranda puts every effort into organising their trip of a lifetime down under. But can she close that horrific chapter of her life for good? I've given enough away already.....
Suffice it to say that events in Australia, both happy and sad, have a profound effect on Miranda, jolting her into adulthood in unexpected ways, while Terri and Cheryl provide support above and beyond the call of friendship. Meanwhile I found Ms. McGough's descriptions of Australian tourist sites is intriguing.
Back home, it is evident that life will never be the same for either one of the close trio. But are they any closer to finding the loves of their lives? Will Miranda ever find the loving relationship with her parents that she craves for? Read this engrossing story and find out......
Congratulations Cathy McGough! A fascinating debut novel.
A New Romance - Excellent Read
Three Friends tells the story of Miranda, Terri and Cheryl in their quest to seek happiness in life. Author Cathy McGough has created a lighthearted look at the dilemma most of us face at some time in our lives. How to escape on a grand adventure that will provide a lifetime of fond memories to look back upon.
The girls call themselves the three musketeers, always sharing in each other's dreams. They are desperately seeking to find a man to romance them, but can never seem to connect with the right one. Now in their mid-twenties they find themselves lonely and dateless most of the time.
Miranda does not get on with her parents and lives by herself in an apartment. Terri and Cheryl still enjoy the comforts of home and family. The girls feel as if life is passing them by and decide to add some spark to their existence by going to Australia for a month.
They book their air tickets and plan to leave at the beginning of December. But fate steps in and delivers a cruel blow to Miranda. She is attacked and raped at her place of work, Vids-R-Us.
She keeps the fact she was raped from her parents. Her lack of empathy with them does not allow her to feel she could share anything with them. She feels the need to leave Canada; even her terrible ordeal was not going to stop her traveling to Australia.
Australia was both kind and cruel to Miranda. She met and fell in love with Ben. It was a wonderful time in her life; a time when she felt fulfilled and had discovered true love. Yet Ben was cruelly wrenched from her.
Run down by a hit and run motorist, when seeing Miranda off at Melbourne airport, Ben never regained consciousness. Miranda felt she was robbed of her true soul mate. It was a time when she needed the support and solace of Terri and Cheryl.
Back in Avon Park life carried on and resembled some form of normality. Yet it was not the same as before. The world that the three musketeers went back to had changed.
It presented to them a different perspective of how cruel ones existence can be. Death is never far from any of us and can strike at any time. It took Janet, Cheryl's mother; way before her time and life was dull and grey.
Yet in every cloud there is a silver lining that belies the tragedy of life. In the end the three musketeers found what they were looking for. How this came about is a tribute to the author's ingenuity.
Cathy McGough has constructed a story that traces three young women's dreams through a difficult period in their lives. It shows their highs and lows with great clarity. This is one novel that is well worth the effort to read.
I loved it!
Reading this book made me feel like I was in Australia too. The perfect "girl" book. So much fun! Cathy, I hope to be reading your next book real soon!
