The tap's run dry, the supermarkets have been ransacked, the power is off and the low rumble of tanks can be heard in the distance. The unprepared who refused to believe that such a thing could happen here will live as wretched refugees-if they live at all. But for the prepared-for the city survivors-life will go on. America's leading survival author debunks the myth that the only way to survive is to stock a retreat in the mountains. He tells urban dwellers how to find water; trap and butcher game; preserve food; position a retreat for maximum safety; avoid troops; and barter with other survivors. You'll learn which weapons are absolute necessities and which aren't worth having, and confront the all-important topic of survival nursing care. Ragnar gives you the solid information you will need to make it if the worst-case scenario becomes a reality.

IT'S FULL OF GOOD IDEAS
THE BOOK IS ABOUT 80-90% ON THE MONEY! CHOCK FULL OF THINGS TO THINK ABOUT AND TO ACT ON. DIDN'T CARE MUCH FOR THE CHAPTER ABOUT GUNS. I DON'T THINK MANY FOLKS ARE GOING TO START BUILDING A VERY EXPENSIVE LONG-RANGE HIGH VELOCITY SNIPER TYPE RIFLE TO TAKE OUT ASSETS AT GREAT DISTANCE. THE GREATEST DISTANCE I EXPECT TO DEAL WITH WOULD BE ABOUT 200 YARDS, SO I DON'T NEED STATE OF THE ART CUSTOM MADE WEAPONRY WITH 400 DOLLAR BARRELS AND SCOPES COSTING TWICE THAT MUCH. OTHER THAN THAT, THE BOOK COVERS LOTS OF GROUND AND HAS SOME VERY GOOD POINTERS.
Good Read...
This book is a pretty good read. It's entertaining, and has some stuff you need to know, should you ever be in need of surviving in a city.
Not a bad starting point...
Mr. Benson's guide to urban survival is an interesting, if not very deep, guide to surviving some very hard times in an urban area. He touches on all the basic topics that one will need to know about in order to survive, and applies a basic 'rule of threes' strategy to all of them. Unfortunately, the book never gets beyond the basics of the topics presented. You're also going to have to wade through a lot of contradictory information to assess what is best for your situation. For example, he discourages solar power as it is expensive and could compromise the location of your retreat, but he praises the noisy and expensive diesel generator later. Overall though, this book is worth a read. One very strong word of caution, however. Take his food storage section with a very large grain of salt. The information presented there is dubious at best, and his guide to canning meats with a steam bath canner could very well get you killed.
