Product Description

Hundreds of years ago, a wealthy city was struck by a gigantic tidal wave. The city was fortunate - while the wave destroyed everything in its path, the city sank beneath the waters nearly intact. It now rests at the bottom of a deep lake; its treasures guarded by Neptune. Try to raise the old city, building by building, and then construct pathways to get to these buildings to find ancient treasure from this lost civilization. But Neptune, the maritime protector, governs this area and is furious with the interfering humans. He streaks across the board smashing everything he comes across, that the city may rest in peace. The player who finds the most treasure is the victor, and so the city may rest again...

Great game5
My family loves to play Sunken City. We have a son who 7 and one who is almost 5 and they both really enjoy playing. Occasionally we have to help the younger son, but the rules are basic enough for him to "get it."

Here's the general premise:
You play one of four "explorers" who are racing to raise buildings from a sunken city. You must built bridges and raise the buildings in order to retrieve the treasure from each building. To do this you have playing cards that give numbers indicating how many structures you may build (0-4) and how many spaces you may move (3-7). So for example, you could choose to use your 4/3 card. You may raise one building (place a square building on a dark blue colored tile) and 3 bridges, and then move your token 3 spaces along the bridges you've erected. Once you land on a building you may turn over your treasure card that corresponds to that building. The object of the game is to gather all of the treasures and return to your home castle with them.

The catch is that Neptune is on the prowl and when he moves around, he destroys bridges and sinks buildings. If you are on a bridge or building when it sinks, you lose any treasure that you haven't returned to your castle and must go home.

The pieces and the board are very sturdy, no flimsy paper in this game.

That's just a general overview. We love this game; my sons often request for all of us to sit and play it, and they'll play it on their own as well.
