When Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a “Monster” named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured by General W.R. Monger (Kiefer Sutherland) and held in a secret government compound filled with other “monsters” like herself. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach P.H.D. (Hugh Laurie); the macho half-ape-half-fish The Missing Link (Will Arnett); the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B. (Seth Rogen); and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to save the world from imminent destruction.
B.O.B.’S BIG BREAK
B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) and his monstrous crew are on a mission to bust out of Area 52, the government’s top-secret holding cell. Led by mad-scientist Dr. Cockroach P.H.D. (Hugh Laurie) and macho amphibian The Missing Link (Will Arnett), the trio outwits grizzled General W.R. Monger (Kiefer Sutherland) to make a triumphant escape…almost.

Monsters to the Rescue
From the creators of "Shrek" and "Kung Fu Panda", Academy award winner Reese Witherspoon leads a ragtag team of unlikely heroes in the animated blockbuster "Monsters vs. Aliens". When the strange energy of a meteorite causes her to mysteriously grow to a towering 49-feet-11-inches, Susan Murphy (Witherspoon) is taken by the military to a top secret compound where the government has kept the existence of monsters hidden from the public for decades. Susan, dubbed Ginormica, and her new monstrous friends are called into action to save the world from the evil alien leader Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson). Though certainly not the best animated movie of the year, "Monsters vs. Aliens" is a very enjoyable parody of classic Sci-fi movies of the 1950s. The animated movie offers some amusing characters and loads of action and humor. The 3-D animation is very impressive and further intensifies the whole viewing experience. The all-star voice cast also includes Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Stephen Colbert and Kiefer Sutherland.
"Monsters vs. Aliens" makes its way onto Blu-Ray with a top-notch presentation and a great set of extras. The animated movie is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen format. Like many animated movies in high definition, "Monsters vs. Aliens" looks fantastic. The HD transfer would have been perfect if it wasn't for the lack of a 3-D option. Its 5.1 Dolby TrueHD sound is also excellent. Special features include several behind-the-scenes featurettes (Modern Monster Movie Making & The Tech of Monsters vs. Aliens), an audio commentary track with the filmmakers, the enjoyable 13-minute "B.O.B.'s Big Break" 3-D animated short, three deleted scenes, paddle ball 3-D game, three sing-along segments with the film's characters, and sneak peaks of other DreamWorks animated films. Overall, "Monsters vs. Aliens" scores a "B+".
Careful !! One of the both movies is not 3D
The movie is very nice, actually better than i believed, but it is promoted as a regular and 3D version two pack with 3D glasses. The real thing is that ONLY ONE of the both Dvd's is 3D and it's ( Bob's big break ) a short of 10 or 15 minutes!!, the main movie it's not 3D version only regular version and as i just said, the movie it's great but not 3D as at first impression they make you think it is
Miss the 3-D - Otherwise a Good Movie
Very enjoyable movie, especially for older kids and adults. I expected to see the movie in 3D and was greatly disappointed to find that only to B.O.B. Extras in 3D. Particularly since all of the other Extras materials couldn't stop gushing about HP & Intel. I have Spy Kids 3D on DVD and it was a very successful home view presentation.
I actually bought the Blu-ray version on the single disc, and in my opinion the packaging puts lots of emphasis on 3D glasses and no indication that they're useless for the Feature Film, or that the Feature is in 2D only. I could not find it addressed anywhere on the packaging, at least in a font size I can read.
If you're a techie like most of my family, wait for someone at Disney or Dreamworks to wise up and offer the 3D version. AND they better offer a decent discount for those of us that already bought the ho-hum version!
