BMW Z series service manual
This book was EXACTLY what I needed to do routine maintenance and certain select modifications. BMW wanted almost $200 for an oil change - one change and this manual paid for itself! Well written and complete - I couldn't be more pleased.
BMW Z3 (E36/7)(E36/8) Service Manual: 1996-2002
Well written and a useful guide in most work applications. It does have a downfall when it comes to certain areas, such as the SRS system and codes. Another area is that of bodywork and dash layout... if fact most of the electrical is left out, unless you can read the schematics supplied in the back. No wire harness/current flow layout to mention. Precautionarys are laid out, but most is just common sense.
Overall, a good book to have for the garage/home mech as far as a general reference, but not recommended for a detailed overview of the cars layout or specs, in essence... NOT a true service manual. No specs. IE: Try and find a section relating to clutch pedal hight adjustment. There isn't one.
Repair is a gloss over and takes the assumption that it used by one that knows the car and work procedures already. In otherwords... you have done this before in one fashion or another.
Again, a good book for the garage and quick reference, although lacking in info.
The only game in town but lacking both in content as well as construction
When I needed to replace the brakes on my 2001 BMW Z3 I was distressed to find that the only manual available for the 2001 BMW Z3 was a $75.00+ Bentley Shop Manual. I ordered the manual [[ASIN:B000AP64PK BMW Z3 Service Manual: 1996-2002] and went it arrived I turned to the section on brakes. The pictures were great but the descriptions left more than a little to be desired. While you could see a picture of it, the manual did not tell you you needed a 7mm allen wrench to remove the brake calipers. To add insult to injury when I laid the book flat, the binding was so cheap that the page that I was looking at just came loose! Not the sort of quality you might wish for in a $75.00 book!
