![]() | Lisey's Story: A Novel by Stephen King
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01 This is the Stephen King I know and love. Great characters with palpable terror. It's weird, scary, and sweet all at the same time. Bram Stoker Winner-Best Novel
![]() | Duma Key: A Novel by Stephen King
Buy new: $13.16 / Used from: $0.01 Another fun diversionary tactic from King, although it takes an insane man to make the sunny state of Florida scary (unless you're talking politics).
![]() | Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge
Buy new: $10.36 / Used from: $3.40 If you're looking for a Halloween tradition look no further. This needs to be a movie, stat. Leisure needs to reprint Mr. Partridge, dag nabbit!!
![]() | Chasing the Dead: A Novel by Joe Schreiber
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.15 This is one wacky, weird, messed up road trip of a novel. If you like 'em fast and fierce look no further.
![]() | Schott's Original Miscellany by Ben Schott
Buy used from: $3.43 A plethora of useless facts, and who doesn't love useless facts?
![]() | The Vanishing by Bentley Little
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.25 Something is wrong with Bentley Little, in a good way. This is one sick little story. It kinda stumbles at the end, but it was fun up to the letdown. You should have read him by now(just skip The Town).
![]() | The Judas Strain: A Novel by James Rollins
Buy used from: $3.17 I love James Rollins' books, although I wish he'd do some stand alone, non-Sigma stuff again. Still, this was a fast, fun read.
![]() | The Missing by Sarah Langan
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 A virulent outbreak of madness and decay that may just be the beginning of the end leads to some pretty gruesome events in Ms. Langan's Bram Stoker Award winning novel (Best Novel, 2007). A great Horror read.
![]() | The Bridge by John Skipp
Buy used from: $1.51 This is a great Horror novel, very timely (even though it was written in the early 1990's) about the nightmare of pollution taking on a life of it's own. Supposedly it's going to be a movie soon to boot. Wicked scary.
![]() | Bad Moon Rising by Jonathan Maberry
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.48 A very nice, very bloody, very off the wall ending to Mr. Maberry's Pine Deep trilogy. An extremely satisfying Horror read.
![]() | Vigil by Robert Masello
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 I've read two of this guy's books and I can honestly say that I'm done. This book was friggin' boring and it never delivered on any of its promises. Just plain terrible.
![]() | Bloodstone (Leisure Fiction) by Nate Kenyon
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.25 Pretty good, what it lacks in character development it more than makes up for in scares and deliberate borrowing from the Providence Master. A worthy read, especially in the month of May if you happen to be in New England.
![]() | The Last Oracle: A Novel (Sigma Force) by James Rollins
Buy new: $19.40 / Used from: $0.04 Yet another fun, fast paced, exciting read from Mr. Rollins, that actually poses some truly interesting questions regarding autism and the savant phenomenon. Good stuff. Hopefully we'll get a non-Sigma Force novel in the future.
![]() | Dark Hollow by Brian Keene
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.91 This is one helluva Horror novel, and helps to reaffirm Keene as an indisputable talent in the field (I thought Ghoul was a little bit of a stumble). Here the Horror starts out funny and ends undeniably nasty and heart wrenching. Plus, Keene gets props for not only referencing Machen, but Wellman as well (Silver John!).
![]() | The Keeper by Sarah Langan
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.88 This is an amazing and unsettling piece of Horror fiction that's way better than any debut novel has any right to be. Atmosphere, shivers, and an inescapable wet.
![]() | The Long Last Call by John Skipp
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.75 Well, this is really two novellas packaged as a single novel. We get the title story and then a bonus novella called Conscience. Of the two, The Long Last Call is better. It's visceral, it's violent, it's completely over the top. And it's cinematic. Of course it'll never be a movie, too much sex. But it was a fun read. Conscience is good, until the end.
![]() | Lost Boy, Lost Girl: A Novel by Peter Straub
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Peter Straub is a master of atmosphere and lost boy lost girl is no exception to the rule. I finally got around to reading this Bram Stoker Award winning novel and I'm kicking myself for waiting so darn long. It's good stuff. Makes me want to start a neighborhood watch.
![]() | The Academy by Bentley Little
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.40 I'm on the fence here. This was a compelling read, (in that I was compelled to keep reading), but it feels like not only a cop-out, but a retread as well. It's very similar territory to The Association. This guy has written better books.
![]() | The Woods Are Dark by Richard Laymon
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.83 This is a sick, sick book. More novella than novel. It is really messed up. Loved every word. Laymon is another author who shouldn't have died. He'd be huge right now. At least we're getting all of these reprints thanks to Leisure.
![]() | Red by Jack Ketchum
Buy new: $31.96 / Used from: $22.99 Holy monkeys is this an awesome book! Not the typical, gruesome, in your face Ketchum, but a kinder, gentler Ketchum. This needs to be read by every dog lover (like Call of the Wild, White Fang, Old Yeller, Sounder, and Where the Red Fern Grows). It's that good. Frank Darabont should direct this movie.
![]() | The Devil You Know (Felix Castor) by Mike Carey
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 Imagine the Ghost Whisperer, minus the stupidity, with hints of and overtures to other paranormal beasties and you have Felix Castor. This is a great read, with a good mystery. I would have liked a nastier comeuppance, but hey, I didn't write the thing now did I?
![]() | Thor by Wayne Smith
Buy used from: $7.99 This is a prime example of why I frequent used book stores. A true treasure of a find. It's basically werewolf vs. German shepherd, but it's awesome. The basis for the pretty good movie Bad Moon. Hunt this book down!
![]() | Ghost Walk (Leisure Fiction) by Brian Keene
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.14 Well, I can't say I liked this as much as Dark Hollow (this is its sequel) but it did keep me reading. Still, I'll keep buying Keene's books if he keeps writing them.
![]() | Horrorween by Al Sarrantonio
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 I actually liked this one. Halloween themed books only work if they're good and scary and this one definitely delivers.
![]() | Shadows in the Mist by Brian Moreland
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.51 Evil Nazi Zombie Soldiers (or are they?) with enough combat and general mayhem to satisfy the most bloodthirsty reader. The comparisons to The Da Vinci Code are wrong.
![]() | Old Flames by Jack Ketchum
Buy new: $4.80 / Used from: $0.82 Twisted, realistic, perverse (and that's just the author). Ketchum writes with an extremely audacious outlook on the everyday. A must read novella of unconscionable revenge. A certain SK put it on his top ten list of books read in '08. I heartily agree.
![]() | The Deluge (Leisure Fiction) by Mark Morris
Buy used from: $0.01 A nice twist on the end of the world scenario, with nary a zombie to be found.

Listmania!
