Product Description

The Bodum Assam double wall cooler/beer glass is 13 ounces in size and can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is 'floating' within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant, and cafe and are a definite conversation piece. Bodum’s insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass traditionally used to make scientific lab glass. Stronger than traditional “soda-lime” glass, borosilicate can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in everyday glassware. The boron oxide acts as the glue holding the silicate together. Due to small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger, lighter glass. Borosilicate glass doesn’t need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong due to the bonding capability boron oxide. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature swings, In addition to being dishwasher safe borosilicate will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 1,000 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Combining modern materials and clever styling, Bodum's Assam drinkware brings a truly innovative look to the table. The walls of each vessel are actually two layers of clear glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid is suspended within. Highlighting the dramatic effect, the Assam shape features slightly concave sides that flare out as they reach the smooth, round rim.

This set of two double wall cooler/beer glasses serves frosty ales or hot toddies with equal ease. Crafted from borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 13-ounce, scratch-resistant set goes safely into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Assam with the Pavina and Canteen lines for a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll

Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher.

Great Glasses, but only if the user is great, too...3
These double-walled glasses kicked some major butt.

While they lasted.

I love beer, and these were perfect for keeping a tall-n'-frosty, FROSTY. They were great.

BUT, within a month, both had fallen prey to a house with dangerous, hard surfaces; their thin walls were little splinters of light on the floor and sink, respectively.

So, if you are sure you can care for them gently and nicely, I'd say get them. If you have a sink with a little bit of a slope that causes them to tip, or you leave them near the edge of a drying rack, you'll be living in constant fear of breaking them.

If I could shelter them, I'd have a set of twelve.

Double wall beverage glasses5
These mouth blown double wall glasses keep their contents cold to the last drop. I tested them to 2 hours and the contents were still as cold as when poured. The glasses have a smooth, pleasant feel to the lips and are attractive enough for the most discerning guest. They will hold 12 oz of beer, but no room for a head, so pour with care. I am using them for every drink I want to keep hot or cold. They don't "sweat" and they don't burn my hands with hot liquid in them. Great, classy, addition to our bar.

impressive looks, too fragile for everyday2
i bought these mugs because i thought they were aesthetically pleasing as well as really a good idea. these statements are still both true, as i enjoyed using the glasses for the short time they lasted. unfortunately these glasses are extremely delicate. they are as delicate as expensive crystal. sadly, using these mugs to enjoy my morning coffee resulted in them lasting no more than a few days. all that it took to destroy a mug was the impact from a slight tilting onto the counter from a standing position on that same counter. the other mug shattered upon a light bump while being hand washed in the sink. it is a shame, because they are so beautiful and do really work as described. please bodum try again and make these a bit more robust?
