Buy used from: $4.21 I guess this is supposed to be the "bible" of mountaineering, as a friend who is more serious about this sort of thing has said so(!). There is an up-to-date edition you can find if you search, but if you are going to be an armchair mountaineer, why not go for the oldy?

Buy used from: $0.01 I first heard of the Eiger through the Clint Eastwood film. While "K2" has a certain appropriate impersonal quality, I don't think a better name than "Eiger" could be given to an imposing mountain. Needless to say, this is a novel and could really make a great movie now if the Clint Eastwood version was remade.
