Every night, Cool Daddy Rat takes his bass case, and goes out to play and scat around the city. But one night he hears something strange: Peeky squeaky who dat? It’s his son, Ace, hiding in the bass case! After a reassuring call to Mama, the pair go all over the city together, filling the streets with his sweet beat. And when Ace can’t contain himself any longer, Cool Daddy Rat finds out he’s not the only fantastic scatter in the family.
This cool read-aloud, full of energy from the jazzy text and animated illustrations, will have kids snapping, tapping and scatting along.

Editorial Reviews
Review
Crow's rhyming text pulses with liberally laced scat--"huggy wuggy boo bat"--and syncopated sound words: "Zow!" Terrific fun. -- Kirkus
Terrific fun. -- Kirkus
What drives this book is the swingin' beat of the text, which jumps...jives and begs to be read aloud. -- School Library Journal, starred review

Shooby Dooby Doo Dat!
Wow! Terrific book. My son and I couldn't stop talking in "scat" to each other after we finished reading this. Lively rhythmic text (very fun to read aloud) and fabulous jazzy illustrations. This book is wonderful on so many levels--as a celebration of jazz music, an affectionate tribute to New York City, a charming tale of daddy worship . . .
Very fun read!!!!
My kids loved this book. It was up beat and very different from any children's book we have read. My kids giggled through the whole thing. Great book and fun pictures.
Very fun jazzy book
Open up the back cover and look at the illustrator verses the rat in the book. It's a shocking resemblence. This is a cute fun book I really like rhythm books for kids. This is the first book by Kristyn Crow and very cute after having Mrs. Crow speak at my childrens school and eating lunch with Mrs crow and hearing so much about this book it was a must have. This book relates to jazz music so much and the streets of a big city like manhattan. My kids really liked this book. I will be purchasing her next book out called middle child blues the second it comes out. She read it to us today and if you have a middle child it's a must have. Also has another coming out in 2010 called skeleton cat. She is a amazing picture book author and I would recommend her books to any child, this book grabbed the attention of all of my kids ages 12-8 and kept them excited.
