"Instyle Getting Gorgeous" the latest release from the editors of Instyle magazine is an excellent guide to help you achieve your loveliest look.

The oversized 190 page book covers a variety of beauty topics in-depth. Chapters include skin care, makeup, lips, body, hair care, teeth and more. The chapter on nails for example details the different nail products on the market, walks you step by step through a manicure and pedicure, discusses nail health - problems and solutions and explores nail color selection.

Though there are a number of beauty books on the market, "Instyle Getting Gorgeous" explores most topics to a greater degree than most others. In the chapter on hair for example, hair style is covered as is the norm but so is hair health and how to trim your own bangs. The skin care selection includes the basics but goes beyond with info on the very latest cosmetic procedures and how to give yourself a facial. Fragrance, "the ultimate accessory of fashion" is also explored so you can not only look terrific but smell delicious too. Tons of info on all aspects of looking gorgeous here!

Photographs in the book are of celebrities. This is Instyle's focus so you will see Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Beyonce Knowles etc but you will not see ordinary every day women. These women are lovely to begin with but they also have learned how to accent their best features and the book points to how they do this. I really enjoyed the section that demonstrates how celebrities change their look and the mood by simply using a different lip color. Little celeb secrets that we can incorporate into our own look to add pizazz!

The book is loaded with step by step illustrations, secrets of the pros, questions and answers, best product choices - and more. "Instyle Getting Gorgeous" is the book to have to answer all your beauty questions and help you glow!

Every fair from fair sometime declines2
Wow. I bought this book a few weeks ago and for the first time I'm disappointed with a purchase. Their other title, Instyle Secrets of Style: The Complete Guide to Dressing Your Best Every Day, was very well done but this book is not. The pictures of famous actresses look like cut and paste and the graphic design and layout looks amateur.

This book doesn't inspire the reader to turn the page. It's dry and clinical and there is nothing unique that sets it apart from similar publications. Aveda Rituals and the Body Shop books like Body Shop Spa are gorgeous to look at, inspiring and make it feel as if you've stumbled upon a secret.

InStyle is a good magazine, not at the same level as Vogue but well done nonetheless. When I purchased this book sight unseen I thought it would take much from magazine, at least provide case studies. It offers none of that and surprisingly makes you feel that unless you want to sink a lot of income into chemicals and plastic surgery, then being beautiful is out of your reach.

Looking good!5
There are a lot of books out there that purport to help you look good from head to foot, but of all the ones I've looked through, "Getting Gorgeous" is by far the best. Lavishly illustrated and photographed, "Getting Gorgeous", unlike most other books on the subject, is as long on substance as it is on style. There are chapters covering every beauty topic usually discussed, plus a couple the other books overlook, such as teeth and fragrance. Each topic goes into depth, with a lot of "How-to" illustrations, a Q&A section, and recommendation of products that really work. This last can be especially helpful to those who are confused by the sheer volume of beauty products out there and can't decide which to purchase.

"Getting Gorgeous" uses photographs of some gorgeous people to make its statement; the subjects are all celebrities or professional models, but the book is all-inclusive in its focus on different ages and ethnic backgrounds. Here, besides the usual 20-somethings, are Thandie Newton, radiant in her 30's, Candice Bergen, still drop-dead beautiful in her late 50's, and many other faces of varying ages and colors. "Getting Gorgeous" doesn't promise the reader that she will look anything like them, but the reader is encouraged, after reading this book, to try new and different procedures that will help to make the most of what she has. In terms of what you'll spend on beauty products, consider this book one of the best investments you'll ever make.
