National Fiction Winners 1975 -2008
"The National Book Awards are the most keenly anticipated of all American literary prizes. Interestingly, winning the award is not necessarily a guarantee of popularity! Many short listed book have proved more popular than the winners.

Just goes to show, the High -Brow Literocracy may hand out their edict, but we, the People, will always have the final say.

I started the list from 1975 as that was the year that I came into USA National Book Award consciousness. Quite bizarre in hindsight as I was living in a working class town in England. Dog Soldiers by Robert Stone was my first National read. Funny old world.

The question that I would like to pose is - Where Are They Now? How many winners have stood the test of time? How many of them can we bring back into memory? .."
