| The Bluebonnet Award is a peculiarly radical library based literacy program sponsored by the Texas Library Association. Each year, a committee of Texas librarians sits downs and picks out about 20 of their favorite books for kids in grades 3 to 6. And then the librarians let go and turn the process over to...a bunch of kids. It's a beautifully democratic thing. Last year, 170,000 children participated in the Bluebonnet voting. To gain franchise, each child has to read five books from the Masterlist. | ||
