From AudioFile
Don Piper recounts the dramatic story of his ninety-minute journey to heaven. When a truck crushed his Ford Escort in a head-on collision, he was declared dead on scene. But a passing minister sensed that God wanted him to pray, so he reached through the wreckage to clasp Piper's bloody hand while he did so. Piper's incredulous voice speaks of what he believes he saw: heaven's luminous gates through which he could see streets paved with gold, as well as relatives and loved ones who surrounded him yet wouldn't let him pass through because it wasn't his time. This incredible story is one of faith and inspiration. G.D.W. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

EXCERPT FROM CATALOG When I died, I didn't flow through a long, dark tunnel. I had no sense of fading away or of coming back. I never felt my body being transported into the light. I heard no voices calling to me or anything else. Simultaneous with my last recollection of seeing the bridge and the rain, a light enveloped me, with a brilliance beyond earthly comprehension or description. Only that. In my next moment of awareness, I was standing in heaven. Joy pulsated through me as I looked around, and at that moment I became aware of a large crowd of people. They stood in front of a brilliant, ornate gate. I have no idea how far away they were; such things as distance didn't matter. As the crowd rushed toward me, I didn't see Jesus, but I did see people I had known. As they surged toward me, I knew instantly that all of them had died during my lifetime. Their presence seemed absolutely natural. They rushed toward me, and every person was smiling, shouting, and praising God. Although no one said so, intuitively I knew they were my celestial welcoming committee. It was as if they had all gathered just outside heaven's gate, waiting for me.

Heavensent3
I read this book and find it interesting. The point is that there IS a Heaven where the souls of the just go. The reward as to what each receives,is dependant on the life of the person, and so no one can really know even the smallest ecstacy that the beautific vision will grant.
The small glimpse, which can never be described by man,is at the least, thought provoking.

Sensationalism2
This book is written by Don Piper, a pastor from Texas. It tells the story of his wreck in 1989, and his subsequent "visit" to heaven. The title of the book is almost misleading. There is only one short chapter devoted to his time in heaven; the rest of the book is spent reliving his time rehabbing his various injuries and the effect that the accident and "visit" had on his spiritual life.

I keep referring to his "visit" in quotations because I don't think he actually died or went to heaven. I know this makes me a faithless unbeliever, but I the facts just don't add up. First of all, he was declared dead by EMTs that worked for the prison system. I'm not sure how much experience they would have had in accidents. Also, EMTs don't have authority to declare deaths. So he was never officially declared dead. The second issue I have is that he never actually went into heaven. The title should be 90 Minutes Right Outside of Heaven. He just has a meeting with relatives that have died before. I feel as if maybe this was all a hallucination as a result of the shock from the severe injuries he incurred.

The positive of this book is that it has inspired others to become closer to God. I personally don't believe that Piper went to heaven and came back to Earth. There is a lot of Biblical evidence to prove that this isn't possible. However, I am not going to say that miracles like this can't happen. I don't know everything. I just don't think it happened in this case. I don't think Piper ever died.

If you want a sugarcoated book about Christianity, this would be a good read. I don't think it will really harm anyone, as no one is going to want to have a wreck that will maim them for life just for a short vision of heaven. But I wouldn't spend too much money on a book that really doesn't help your spiritual walk.

Best book I've ever read...5
This book is truely inspirational. When I first started reading this book it captured my attention to the point I could not put it down. The fact that it is a true story is intriuging. It is very well written. The author almost makes you feel as if you are right beside him step by step. I would reccommend this book to anyone.
