Sarah from Alaska illuminates both the talents that helped make Palin a superstar and the traits that became liabilities under the intense pressures of a divisive national campaign. It reveals in riveting detail how Palin’s vice presidential campaign became as dysfunctional as it was secretive, explores the circumstances behind her triumphs and baffling missteps, and provides new context for understanding her values, her political successes in Alaska, and her abrupt resignation from the governorship.
“It’s easy to turn Sarah Palin into a caricature of either a heroic everywoman or ridiculous dolt,” the authors say, “but the truth is that she is more complex than either her most passionate defenders or harshest critics give her credit for.” Palin remains ambitious and enormously popular among social conservatives, and her future will be intrinsically interwoven with that of the Republican Party as it struggles to redefine itself and recapture the necessary margin for national political victory in the next decade. That makes Sarah from Alaska essential reading for anyone interested in American politics.

Review
“A pleasant relief from all those pro- and anti-screeds Ear is so tired of…”
Daily Kos
“Sarah Palin is a woman who simply will not be cheated out of more than her fair share of the wattage of whatever limelight is shining, and given the leaks, lies and refutations about the content of her own book, it's probably best for readers interested in Palinology to take hold of a more disinterested volume before diving into Going Rogue head first. Conroy's and Walshe's book would seem to be a bracing pre-read that doesn't hesitate to outline her flaws while still keeping sight of the personality that appealed to the right-wing white base. She's not a caricature in this account, even if she still ends up as something of an enigma….Such scoopish tidbits like the never-heard speech are planted throughout Sarah from Alaska. Readers can learn more about the exorbitant wardrobe purchases, staff firings in Alaska, the clandestine arrangements to bring her to McCain for her initial interview, staff reactions to the Charles Gibson and Katie Couric interviews, and backbiting and intrigue that began early on between the McCain and Palin campaign staffs….Sarah Palin, whether she winds up in the primaries or not, is clearly at Ground Zero in the battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. Sarah from Alaska opens the door for a deeper look at her ideology, her path to power, and her version of herself as no-nonsense streetfighter who is also some sort of a victim of the modern media environment and coastal liberal snobs. Holding such contradictions together in the package of one person seems impossible, but for now she's pulling it off. Just as Republicans are hoping they can, as a party.”

“[A] balanced and well-reported… account of Palin’s career.”

A well-written account of Sarah Palin's campaign
"Sarah from Alaska" will appeal to both supporters AND non-supporters of the former Alaskan governor. It is a solidly written, UNBIASED account of her VP campaign last year. The "good" is presented with the "bad". I am a political junkie, and a solid Democrat, but I enjoyed reading this book and gained some perspective about Mrs Palin. So unbiased is the writing that I really can't discern the writers' political leanings from their writing!
I was amused to note that the one-star review (so far) was written by a Sarah Palin supporter who admits he did not read the book, but didn't like the picture of her on the cover(!). Not the best basis for a review. My advise to him is to actually READ the book. He'd probably enjoy it.
History In The Making
Whether you agree with Sarah Palin or not, this is a historical look at Ms. Palin and her experience on the campaign trail. You will go behind the scenes and find answers to the questions that may have escaped the notice of the general public. You will also read the truth behind rumors that constantly plagued the former vice presidential candidate. The authors have written a comprehensive book that looks at the real Ms. Palin, her trials and triumphs.
I highly recommend it.
Insightful and Thoughful - History is Written
This is the last book I expected to find myself reading, but life takes you strange places. What I've found is an insightful journey alongside the most polarizing politician this country has seen in years. Along the way, I've turned from my preconceived notions about the candidate and the person, replacing conjecture with fact. I've discovered that there is a real person with real motivation behind it all. Now, don't get me wrong, you won't find me voting for her or supporting her. Knowing her is not necessarily loving her, unless you already do. Regardless, a worthy read for anyone who understands that history is what happens when we have time to apply thought and research to the events that shape our time. This is a fine start to the writing of that history.
