About the Brand
In 1971, 17-year-old Barbara Jaffe opened a small bakery in northern California. Determined to provide the best-tasting natural baked goods possible, her bakery soon grew from a storefront start-up to a thriving wholesale business. Barbara and her family sold the company in 1986, but at Barbara's Bakery we remain steadfastly committed to producing natural products made without preservatives, artificial ingredients, hydrogenated oils or refined white sugar. We care about making the right food choices as much as you do. All of our products will always adhere to our high standards for taste, quality, and the purity of the ingredients we use.
Over the years, we've expanded our product line to include cereals, crackers, cookies, chips and snack bars (under the Nature's Choice brand name). Though we've grown considerably from that little storefront, we are still a family owned business, dedicated to an all-family approach to our products. Good health is multi-faceted, and is affected by issues ranging from job satisfaction to snacking. It is our philosophy that everything we do as a company be "healthy," from the products we create to our community contributions, from the types of packaging we use to our strict ingredient standards.
All of us at Barbara's Bakery do our part to shape our products and our company philosophy. We are completely and personally committed to the development of natural, good-tasting cereals and snacks that suit a wide variety of healthy lifestyles.
Brighter Future
The Barbara's Bakery health-friendly approach is not just limited to the products we make. We are committed to making every aspect of our business philosophy socially responsible. Recycled materials are used in packaging whenever possible and in 1993 we introduced a program called "Barbara's for a Brighter Future." Through this program, we've donated over a million dollars, along with employees' time and energy, to local and national organizations involved in environmental, hunger and children's issues. To further extend the impact of our employees' efforts, we have put in place an unusual policy. For every hour an employee donates to a non-profit organization, Barbara's contributes $10 to that organization.

Misleading product name
This product may indeed be delicious but the product name is at the very least misleading, at worst deceptive. Anyone with celiac disease or other wheat intolerance needs to know that this product, though free of wheat, is made with multiple grains, including barley flour, and so is unsuitable for their use. Rightfully, the product should be named Multigrain Fig Bars as that is what they are. I don't see why anyone would specifically choose a wheat-free product over one containing wheat unless one is wheat intolerant (and therefore intolerant to all wheat-related grains). What possible legitimate reason could there be then to name this product "Wheat Free"? My rating of the product is based not on the product per se but on the unfortunate and misleading name Barbara's Bakery has chosen to give it. Please note also that a representative of Barbara's Bakery in a private communication to me in response to my objection to the name of this product stated there was no claim made that the product was gluten free then added that the few products Barbara's Bakery makes which it does claim to be gluten free are made in non-dedicated facilities which also process wheat. This is absurd as those products are subject to contamination with wheat and cannot legitimately be considered gluten free. It all comes down to a matter of truth in advertising. Where there is no truth in advertising what trust can there be in any of the products the company produces?
My husband loves these!!
I bought these fat free wheat free fig bars for my son, and both he and my husband love them. I was impressed by the flavor and these fig bars are moist. These were better than my expectations!
Delicious
We were thrilled to find these. They will be a staple in our home.
