1967-68, 884 minutes, 17 episodes. This superficially looks like a spy series, but it quickly turns into sci-fi as an agent is captured, numbered, and held in a totalitarian village. It is an excellent allegory of freedom vs. society. Just one season long.

The first three seasons are on DVD as of now. It first began in 1975 and is still on TV today.

1987-1994, for the whole series: 8085 minutes, 178 episodes, syndicated. TNG is always thought provoking and engages the viewer on an odyssey of speculation, possibilities, and, of course, some occasional nonsense, but for the most part it's seven seasons are my favorite of the Star Trek world.

1994-present. Michael Crichton was an original executive producer and the show has an excellent realism to its medical scenes.

1998, executive producer Tom Hanks (5-DVDs, HBO 12 part miniseries, titled after the 1865 Jules Verne sci-fi novel, but based on a book by Andrew Chakin: ‘A Man on the Moon’). Dramatically reenacts the social and technical details of the NASA moon missions, the building of spacecrafts, the training of astronauts in geology.

1999 to 2006 first on NBC, 156 episodes over 7 seasons. "The show received positive reviews from critics, political science professors, and former White House staffers. In total, The West Wing won three Golden Globe Awards and 26 Emmy Awards, a tie with Hill Street Blues for the most Emmy Awards ever won by a television drama series" (Wikipedia).

2001 on HBO, 705 min 10 part miniseries.

2001-present on the CW, 147 episodes over 7 seasons. Major price cut for the series, but you need to buy them individually. I love Smallville for its smartness and imagination; it's stories remind me of the sort of work a creative writing instructor would love to have handed in.

2002-present, 92 episodes to date over 6 seasons. I absolutely love Monk! His humor is top-notch, but I get a little annoyed by the shallowness of some of the supporting characters; even so, I watch all the new episodes on USA. Also get season 5 on Amazon.

2004-present, 82 episodes to date over four seasons. I was watching a medical scene in a Star Trek episode and couldn't resist thinking: House puts this scene to shame. I like this better than ER, even though I like both of them. There are also seasons 2-3 on Amazon.

2005-2006 on HBO, 22 episodes over 2 seasons. One of the best shows ever on TV. I esp. like the excellent parts with Octavian.

7 or so seasons now, 78 episodes to date. Season 1 was from January 18, 2005—April 9, 2005 on SpikeTv - Light heavyweights and middleweights. This is reality TV in which mixed martial arts fighters complete for a six figure contract in the UFC; it hires two elite trainers and sets at least 1 fight just about every episode.
