Gardiner is amazing and Terfel's Figaro is unrivalled. The visuals are stunning but you can get it on CD too.
	Verdi - La Traviata / Richard Eyre, Solti, Gheorghiu, Lopardo, Nucci, ROH Covent Garden Buy new: $22.49 / Used from: $12.98 The classic Verdi opera beautifully staged and directed by Sir Georg Solti. You will love the duet between Violetta and Alfredo's father.
	Verdi: La Traviata (Complete opera); Maria Callas; Alfredo Kraus by Franco Ghione Buy new: $32.98 / Used from: $13.61 One of my treasured early operatic experiences. I still remember the excitement of taking it out of the library and reading every inch of the libretto as I listened, spellbound!
	George Gershwin - Porgy & Bess / Trevor Nunn · Sir Simon Rattle · W. White · C. Haymon · Glyndebourne Opera Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $12.98 I thought this was a very good version of one of history's greatest operas.
	Porgy & Bess: High Performance by William Warfield Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.67 Although this is (unfortunately!) only highlights from the opera, no fan of opera can possibly go without it.
	Giacomo Puccini - La Bohème / Franco Zeffirelli · James Levine - T. Stratas · R. Scotto · J. Carreras · MET Buy used from: $11.80 The compelling acting of this performance is the most defining quality about it. Visionally, it is wonderfully lavish. Carreras cuts a very respectable figure and Stratas is the Mimi of your dreams.
	Rossini - Il barbiere di Siviglia / Ferro (cond.), Bartoli, Quilico, Schwetzingen Festival 1988 [VHS] Buy used from: $2.26 Definitive. Costuming and sets are second only to the great voices and acting in this film.
	Bizet: Carmen / Price, Corelli, Merrill, Freni; Karajan by Georges Bizet Buy used from: $19.98 Oooh! This was my first experience with opera - had a record of Highlights from it. Maybe I'm biased but it's the best I've heard.
