The Appalachian Trail Conservancy and the Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association collaborate on a guide especially designed for potential thru-hikers who want the basic information for a five- to six-month trek in the A.T.'s legendary woods, but also want the adventure of finding out the extras for themselves. Contains both the basic information for the trail (where to find the water, for example) and the highlights of a nearby town's offerings. With research by more than a dozen thru-hiker volunteers in 14 states, backed by the first-hand information of the trail's volunteer and staff maintainers and managers and extensive information from the 2006 A.T. Data Book. Thirteenth edition, 4" x 9", spiral bound for easy reading on foot, town maps, and equipment-makers' toll-free numbers.

Companion Guide-2007
I really enjoyed looking through this book. You can actually use this book for "arm chair" hiking. The summaries are so detailed you feel as though you are hiking along the trail(almost). But for the "real" hikers, the information was comprehensive, well researched and current. Thank you for doing the "leg work" for us.
Hike the AT
While I have not hiked the trail yet, the book appears to be full of great info.......looking forward to putting it to good use soon.
