understanding how they work
Ear candles do not have a strong enough suction to pull out the ear wax. The reason they help so much is they soften the ear wax to help it find it's way out. Ear wax protects our ears, it's when we get dust, pollen, etc. in them that causes problems. The candles pull this out and also helps with sinus pressure. After using a candle, the stuff you see at the bottom of it is the burnt muslin and melted wax from the candle.
Ear Candles work for me
Much of my life I sporadically suffered from earaches. I think it was due to all the swimming I did as a kid, which meant allot of ear infections. I would go to the Dr and was told that there was nothing wrong. I have also always had overly waxy ears. A co-worker told me about ear candles and suggested I try them. I did and have not stopped using them. I have been ear candling for about 4 years now and recommend it to anyone that suffers from earaches. The first time I used them it took quite a few candles in each ear to get all the "stuff" out of my ear. I now use them about every six months, usually 2 -3 candles per ear. I no longer suffer from earaches. I do not know if what is in the candle when I am done but I can actually feel relief and the process is very soothing. I also hear better. I know that there is much hype about ear candles not working and that they are a hoax, but for me they work. I find it a much better alternative to medication or ear cleaning at the Dr. Will these work for you? Who knows, but all that I can say is that they work for me and I will continue to use them the rest of my life.
ear candles are a hoax
This review is about ear candles in general. My wife and I both tried these candles as instructed. When done, we excitedly cut open the candles and saw copious amounts of what looked like ear wax. Days later I reconsidered the ear candles and couldn't convince myself of the results, despite seeing what I assumed must be ear wax in the dissected candle.
I bought another candle and conducted an experiment. I lit the candle on one end and placed the other end (which would normally go into your ear) into a section of vinyl tubing. Soon, smoke was pouring out of the tubing. Thinking that an open tube didn't accurately simulate the human ear canal, I bent off the tubing thereby sealing it. Once the candle had burned down I cut it open. Sure enough, the contents of the candle with tubing at the end was identical to the candle I had held to my ear; there was an ashy powder along with tough, brown chunks of wax. Since the contents of the candle without an ear attached to it matched the contents of the candle placed into an actual ear I can only conclude that the "ear wax" found in the cut-open candle does not come from your ear. It probably comes from the candle itself, but that's just a guess.
