Product Description

Many church members get a taste of community ministry through church outreach events or week-long mission trips. But when the event is over, many are left with a yearning for more. They desire more frequent experiences of that kind of ministry, and want something that will change their lifestyle altogether.

For churches looking to make the next step in community ministry, The Samaritan Way will lead you there. David Crocker offers readers a way to transition from one day of intensive compassion ministry to a lifestyle of compassion ministry. Through stories and experiences, Crocker inspires and educates readers to take their limited experiences to a new level.

Lessons on Compassion from the Good Samaritan5
In his book, The Samaritan Way: Lifestyle Compassion Ministry, David Crocker shares the following lessons on compassion from the Biblical story of the Good Samaritan:

1. "Compassion is an intrinsic value, not an acquired skill or attitude." [37]

2. "Compassion responds naturally to whatever need it encounters." [38]

3. "Compassion overcomes barriers to minister to another's need." [39]

4. "Lifestyle compassion ministry is active involvement in others' pain, either directly or indirectly." [40]

5. "Compassion sees it through." [41]

This book is full of real life stories where lifestyle compassion ministry is being expressed.

Engaging Ministry Opportunities5
THE SAMARITAN WAY: Lifestyle Compassion Ministry (TCP Leadership Series)
I found this book to be very engaging and I liked the variety of personal stories that were related to the over-all premise of the book. David Crocker makes you want to explore varying ministries that extend beyond the local church and embrace the needs of a great variety of people who have become the victims like the victim on the Jericho Road. I understand more fully than I ever did from the parable itself, what it means to truly be a neighbor. I would highly recommend this book to individuals, clergy, and congregations who are seeking ways to reach out beyond themselves and minister to those in varieties of needs. My definition of compassion was greatly expanded and I believe that every reader will experience similar thoughts and ideas.
