Powerful Vocals3
1998's Ignition was the debut solo release from former Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist Mark Boals. Stepping away from the neoclassical metal style, Ignition is a straightforward melodic hard rock album. Boals is undeniably a dynamic vocalist, and hits some seriously high notes on this album. For the most part, that vocal style works pretty well, though there are moments (like the album opener Jane) that make you wonder if he has his um, unmentionables caught in a vise.

Ignition isn't quite as focused and impressive as Boals's later albums, but it's still a good first effort and is overall a decent melodic hard rock album. Malmsteen fans may be disappointed at the lack of guitar heroics, but it should appeal to fans of Boals's powerful (if extremely high) vocal style.

Off the beaten path4
Not what I expected from the former Yngwie Malmsteen frontman. However, I was impressed with the vocals and I like it more every time I listed to it. His band consists of pretty much nobodys, but they are talented enough to support the mind-blowing vocals. He mixes the type of song up well (slow vs. upbeat). It has been a long time since Mark Boals has been in the music eye. I am thankful for the return.

Incredible Tones4
I first heard this incredible vocalist in Yngwie Malmsteen's Trilogy album, then in the Alchemy, and he impressed me. He has the highest voice of any metal singer. I've been looking for Mark Boals singing in a solo album or with anyone. So here it is. I recommend it if you really like Kiske, Sammet, Fabio Lione, etc. This is another great singer, it's good even though it's not the best metal album, and his voice isn't the nicest, it's just he has incredible high tones.
