Customer Reviews

A well balanced debut. 4
This is the first solo album from Bass master Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Sykes, ex- Whitesnake, ex- Blue Murder,). In this task his allies are ex- "Mr. Big" guitarist Ritchie Kotzen and "Whitesnake" drummer Tommy Aldridge while Marco is in charge of bass and lead vocals.
This album has very little to do music wise with the sound of the bands mentioned above. No groundbreaking twin guitar sound, no high pitched screams and no speeding bass drums from Aldridge. Instead this release tends to come closer to the rockier side of a Glenn Hughes album.
Yes, the songwriting is very solid and Marco's voice is pretty good. Yet, this being Marco's turf, one would expect his fretless bass shining through discrete yet clever harmonies which eventually does not happen. In comparison to his "Blue Murder- Nothing But trouble" masterpiece work, "Live for Tomorrow" has only typical bass playing. Typical is also Tommy Aldridge's performance which is fitting given the nature of the album. Still it deprives him of his drumming identity, one must admit realistically.

A diamond in the rough4
Marco Mendoza needs no introduction, as a bassist and b/g vocalist in live acts for Thin Lizzy, Ted Nugent, and Whitesnake (just to name a few, all of which his cohort Tommy Aldridge has shared the rhythm section with). Now Marco steps up to the fore front and unviels his vocal debut album. Ted helps lay a solo down, but this album wouldn't be 4 stars without the assistance from Richie Kotzen. Truth be told, this album is just as much a solo release for Richie Kotzen as it is an album for Marco Mendoza. While Marco sings almost all leads, Richie helps out on a couple of songs, even duets on the track I Want You. Ironically, Marco has a tendency to sound a bit like Richie himself sometimes it's hard to tell who is actually singing. Richie also handles 90 % of the guitar, and all production duties. A good album, quality songwriting, playing, and production. Fans of Richie Kotzen should buy this.
