You must understand your own ethical framework so that when yours clashes with another person's you can understand where they are coming from. WIthout this ability you will not be able to influence your way through these situations. Badaracco's book is a fabulous resource for understanding your ethical framework. It has a hidden gem deep within it that you will want to read

If you want to learn to lead change there are four books I recommend. This is book 1. You cannot lead without understanding the complex dynamics of change processes. This book will not teach you how to lead change but it will help your level of awareness of the environment to create successful change.

This is book 3 on change. I love the three stage model Bridges presents in helping us really lead people through the process of change. Likening change to the grief cycle this model helps the leader get in touch with the emotions littered on the path of a change process

Leaders are learners. Leaders need to create a space for their team to learn and grow. This masterful book by Peter Senge is a must read on the concept of a learning organization.

Let's face it you will make them. If you do not you probably are not trying hard enough, risking enough, truly leading. You will make mistakes when you lead. It is critical not to allow a mistake become a failure. This happens when you fail to learn from your mistakes. Maxwell offers a great process for effectively learning from your mistakes.

Ira gives a 180 view of leadership. He looks at the concept of followership. A leader who cares about their cause and their people will want to read this book and understand the follower perspective.
