How many ways can I say horrible? Watch out for sharp flying nails!
It was a fun concept for girls like my 4 year old daughter who, unlike her mother, loves painting her fingernails and playing make-up. She *really* wanted this nail set for her birthday.
But this thing is really horrible. This poor dismembered Barbie is likely to end up on the clearance shelves if other folks have experiences like ours.
I really wish I could take it back. Not only is it mostly useless, it seem rather unsafe.
I would have rather spent the $25 to have just bought her more nail polish, itsy stickers, and petite fake nails made for human hands. Here's why:
First -- Nails are sharp. The instructions warn you to cut off the fingernails rather than snapping them off so they aren't sharp. I cut them off, but they still had sharp points. The need to be filed off.
Second -- Watch out for torpedo nails. We put the nails on the play hands and set it aside. Shortly therafter we started getting pelted with nails. The nails were popping out of their slots! The nails are held in by the pressure of the side walls of the fake cuticles. Apparently the pressure was just too much to contain the nails. **Hopefully no one gets hurt!**
Third -- The storage slots for the nails don't work either. The instructions tell you to store the nails in those slots on the fan where they were originally displayed. But the nails kept popping out of those slots as well. So now we have 30 loose fake fingernails to keep track of and they tend to get lost in the nooks and crannies of the useless 3-tier cake included as a backdrop.
Fourth -- The whole thing is difficult to store anyway. I try to put each toy in its own plastic storage box and this needs a big box given it's large size and strange proportion. It is nice that the hands and wrists swivel for different positions. But most of the toy is extraneous anyway and is just for enhancing its appearance on the shelf.
Fifth -- There were some good aspects, but not worth the money. My 4 year old daughter was really disappointed with it. When I asked her about her gift she said she wouldn't tell a friend to get it.
Sixth -- She just loved putting the nails on her own hands, the adhesive didn't stick well and once again they fell off (but thankfully didn't pop off like they did on the toy!) She was thrilled for the 60 seconds that they lasted. But the nails are really thick and nonconforming compared to the kind of fake nails designed for humans so it's not surprising they fell off.
Seventh -- She does use the clear nail polish and the nail stickers. The little bottle of glitter seems useless. Too bad it didn't end up as fun as it seemed on the shelf.
Disappointed!!!
My five year old had great fun during the very short time, she could use it. Mattel only supplies 20 adhesives! That's only two sets of nails before you run out of adhesives. I paid over $26 for this toy. I called Mattel and they do not offer more adhesives for sale. They should have way more of these with this toy. I called a beauty supply store, but the glue they sale is too strong for children. We tried double-sided tape but it made the nail sit too high. Beware!
Great buy
Hard to find item. Little girl loves it. Good price without the shipping
