The Greatest Resource on Medical School5
This book contains everything you need to know about medical school! I recommend purchasing a copy 1-2 years before you apply to medical school.

I went to straight to the section that lists all of the schools with M.D. programs in the U.S. and Canada. There are 2 pages devoted to each school, and on those pages you will find the following wealth of information:

-Public vs. Private school
-Mission Statement
-Curricular Highlights
-USMLE
-Selection Factors
-Financial Aid
-Information about Diversity Programs
-Setting
-Enrollment
-Special Features
-Housing
-Application Process and Requirements
-Other Programs (Preparatory programs and combined degree programs)
-Premedical Coursework Required/Recommended
-GPA & MCAT data for the previous year's class (shows scores from the 10th to the 90th percentile of those accepted)
-Acceptance and Matriculation Data (sorted by state residents, non-residents, and international students)
-Matriculant Demographics
-Specialty Choice
-Financial Information
-Criminal Background Check Information

Basically... the amount of information contained in these pages is massive, and it's a great resource to anyone considering medical school. Just the matriculation data alone can help you decide whether you should or shouldn't apply to a particular school (for example, if a school in a different state saves only 15 spots in each class for non-residents, then you might not want to apply there (unless you have top grades), because THOUSANDS of people will be competing for those 15 spots.

I used the book to compose a pretty long list of schools I might be interested in applying to (around 50 schools), and then I went to those 50 websites for more information to help me narrow down my list even more.

A must-have5
It does not matter when you are thinking of applying to med school: this year or in 10 years! This book is very useful. It gives you the statistics that you've wondered about (better to get it from the source than to listen to rumors). It gives some clear data about GPA and MCAT scores needed at different med-schools, etc. It is best to get it earlier than later but even if you got it a week before your interviews, it would still be helpful!

Good Book5
You will find lots of information for every medical school. The book contains chapters that talk about financing medical school, diversity, and special programs. There are two pages dedicated to each school. You will find average MCAT and GPA for entering students, a description of the goals of the school, a list of requirements, and much more. Just buy the book!
