Very nice!
My daughter ordered this for me to use as a night light when I babysit my granddaughter. My daughter has two similar salt lamps that she bought locally where she lives. Not only are hers smaller than what's available here but cost much more.

We were skeptical about ordering one of these online as they vary in size, shape and personality; however, we were both very pleased at the quality of what we received especially since information provided is only a picture on a box and not the actual salt lamp. I would have felt more at ease with ordering it if I could have actually seen a picture of one of the lamps itself instead of just the box.

The salt lamp I received is beautiful. It comes on a wooden base with 3 small indentations in it for placement of the cord coming out from under the lamp and came with a 7 watt bulb which can be easily replaced when it burns out. The bulbs are like the ones used in the plug-in night lights and are readily available everywhere - even the grocery store. The cord has an on/off switch on it.

My lamp including the wood base weighs in at a hefty 10 pounds. It's 9 inches high and 16 1/2 inches in circumference at the widest area. It's very much like the one pictured on the box above except the top isn't quite as pointy. It's definitely one that I would have picked out myself. Just remember that each lamp is different and has it's individual characteristics.

This is a very good bargain as a lamp of this size would cost two to three times this price in stores in our area. It came well packaged with lots of padding plus free shipping - how cool is that!

The lamp emits a soft, orange-ish light and makes a great night light; however, I keep it on 24/7 to best obtain the other benefits of a crystal salt lamp. From what I've read, the heat from the bulb causes the salt to emit negative ions. These negative ions bond with the pollutants in the air (positive ions) and neutralize them making for a better environment in the room. You might want to read up on that info to see if you agree with it or not, but even if you don't agree, it's a beautiful light. I'm going to order another one to put in our computer room/office.

FYI: Update - I noticed that the price on this has gone up 20 dollars since we ordered it.

MASSIVE disappointment!
Having bought a rock salt lamp for my daughter from a different web site for $30 more than this lamp, I thought I'd beat the high price by purchasing this from Amazon, especially since it was well-reviewed. What a terrible disappointment it is! It is an amorphous lump, not a pretty crystalline lamp like my daughter's is. When lit, dark veining that looks like trapped dirt shows up. When not lit, the lamp is simply a multi-colored, irregularly-surfaced blob. The base is terribly crafted of cheap wood with a truly poorly finished surface. The light bulb fitting is very cheaply constructed. The lamp I received looks nothing like the one on the box - it looks like a very cheap imitation. Despite its cost, it just says "dollar store" to me. Search elsewhere for one of the lamps with a crystalline exterior if you care about the lamp's beauty as well as its benefits. Don't waste your money on this one.

Fantastic Gift
I sent this as a gift to my hard-to-buy-for sister. She called me up and kept telling me how COOl it was, she'd not seen anything like it before and she is REALLY hard to buy for but this fit in perfectly with her room. She is into hiking, crystals, organic foods-just a basic tomboy type of gal. I am so glad I read the reviews on amazon and decided to go for this lamp. It made the perfect, unusual gift which is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks amazon!
