Nice alternative to the Amazon cover.4
I went with the M-Edge over the Amazon cover due to the thoughtfulness of a pen holder and a couple business card sized slots. For the same price as the Amazon cover, I saw this as a better buy. It even secures with a "latch" so, without much experience with the Amazon cover, this cover seems to offer more protection from the chance the flap opens unexpectedly. Shipping took just a couple days from M-Edge.

Upon opening the box, it sure didn't smell like genuine leather. The case has a very noticeable smell of what could be a leather sealant. However, it's possible that will extend the life-span of the materials which felt high grade. The most important material is the interior since it will be touching the gadget and it doesn't disappoint with its soft fiber. The Kindle is held in by four elastic bands which sit on the corners. The DX is reinforced without any wiggle room. The outside cover is a rugged leather. Sandwiched in-between the rugged leather and soft interior is a protective plate of an unknown material (probably plastic). The binding has a thin material lining that makes it a tad difficult to easily bend the cover fully back. I know this is so the binding isn't wobbly but I've yet to find the sweet spot where I can bend the cover all the way back.

Reading with the cover is OK. Like I said, bending the cover back isn't exactly easy but I hope this will improve with time. The "latch" is folded back and out of the way. Obviously it adds weight to what some consider an already heavy eReader. I don't feel that way but I've also been lugging around an hp TC1100 for an eReader for years. Overall, it doesn't impede reading which is make or break with covers.

I was able to affix a Verilux reading light to the top edge of the back (and front) cover. The Ventilux clip fit snug and didn't cause any unnecessary pressure to the elastic corner holders of the M-Edge case.

Tried to Like It2
I have to admit I tried to like it, even went so far as to say in a Kindle discussion that I preferred it to the Amazon cover. No more. After a week of walking with it on the Applachian Trail (or were we in Argentina?), its flaws, and there are only three, are too great to overcome: 1)It's too bulky; 2)It doesn't fold well making it uncomfortable to hold; 3)The closure is just too much of a nuisance to deal with every time I need to open or close it. I received the VanGoddy cover yesterday. It's repacked and ready to go back today - don't ask. I've tried but nothing so far matches the flexibility and ease of use of the Amazon cover even though the m-edge leather is nicer to the touch.

Love This Jacket!5
I just returned from a week and a half tour and I found I loved this cover! The ability to hold a pen and put papers in a pocket greatly simplified my life as I could put all the necessary tour documents in the folder pocket and didn't have to juggle multiple document holders. Is it a tad heavy?--perhaps, but I prefer the extra sturdiness. I also like the fact that you can latch it closed. I hold my kindle like a book in my lap, so don't have the issues some might who hold it in one hand, as this particular jacket may not work very well in that instance. Personally I felt holding it the way I did also provided a bit more privacy when reading on the plane.

The Kindle with this jacket fit nicely in a slightly larger purse that I carried with me at all times, as I never knew when I might wish to use my Kindle.
