Amazon.com Product Description
Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 15DLV77 has both a DVD player and a 15-inch screen, you won't have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design.
The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 15DLV77 is little more than three inches deep and weighs just over 13 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.
The unit has a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, which puts it in the higher end of standard definition sets. Its traditional 4:3 aspect ratio makes it ideal for watching most DVD content. A built-in comb filter reduces digital artifacts produced by signal noise, making for more detailed images.
Full-Featured DVD Player
The 15DLV77 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Want to view photos? Simply move your JPEG photos onto a CD-R or CD-RW disc and the 15DLV77 will provide you access to a slide show of your images with a few clicks on the player's remote control. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely.
An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video.
Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It also makes these connections:
- ColorStream component video inputs: 1
- S-video: 1
- RCA video inputs: 1 rear and 1 side
- L-R audio inputs: 1 front and 1 side
- Digital audio output for DVD: 1 coaxial
- RF: 1
- Headphone jack: 1
Audio
The 15DLV77's bottom-mount speakers deliver stereo sound, but for those with a 5.1 surround sound system, the 15DLV77 outputs Dolby Digital and dts digital audio through a coaxial port. A front headphone jack allows you to watch TV without disturbing those around you--perfect for late-night viewing. Toshiba's Surround Sound feature uses advanced audio processing to mimic the all-encompasing sound of satellite speakers. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

Customer Reviews
A great kitchen TV, with great expandability ....
I've been looking for this type of TV to replace a Sony 9" CRT we've been using in the kitchen for many years. My wife wanted more counter space. This fills the bill quite well. Many sets this size have speakers on the side, which take up horizontal space. We prefer the layout on this set. It arrived in a box that showed what was inside, so if this is to be a surprise for someone, they'll know what it is the minute it arrives.
Set up was very easy, with one exception. You can program 12 of your favorite channels, but this can only be done one channel at a time. And, it puts them in the order that you input them, rather than sequentially. This took a while to do.
A nice surprise was the fact that the auto-setup detected several 'digital' channels that were present on our analog cable. We even get a few 'HD' channels broadcast in 720p which look amazing on this set! Out digital music channels were also detected.... I thought that we could only get these with a cable box, but apparently not. So, we are very please with this set. The sound is OK for the kitchen, but I would hook it up to an amp/speakers if used in a bedroom or den.
The remote control is well-designed, and overall, the set seems to be very well constructed. The stand allows a moderate tilt adjustment to the screen, but the set does not swivel on the stand. The stand can be removed however for installation on an extendible arm, or hung on a wall.
For the money, this is a nice set!
Awesome TV fits in small space.
I got the Toshiba 15DLV77 and love it. I brought it home and had it going almost as fast as I could get it out of the box. Super light weight. Its picture is sharp and there are lots of controls over the image, but it's fine just the way it is as far as I'm concerned.
I wanted something to replace my 20 year old CRT model and wanted all the bells and whistles in the connectivity department to use with my DV camcorder. This model is new and should keep me going with my Audio Visual interests for years to come.
I got an Ergotron arm set-up for it so I can 'aim' the TV (attaches to wall with articulate folding arm) in any direction I can pull it out over 20" from its normal resting place in the living room so I can view it from the kitchen while I'm cooking, or, back in the living room when I'm relaxing. Where it sits normally, I watch it from the dining area while having breakfast. All of the Ergotron hardware needed to do this is available on Amazon.
If you have small space requirements but want full viewing with expanded capabilities, this is the set for you.
Nice......
It was a struggle between rating this a 4 or 5. Wish there was a 4.5. First of all I'd like to say that Amazon's free shipping made this HDTV a great deal and made my mind up to buy from them (along with their outstanding customer oriented support after the sale if there are problems). I've bought from Amazon many items and a few went wrong but Amazon always corrected the issue to my satisfaction..
As far as the product, the built-in digital tuner is fabulous. I say this because I have another digital tuner that does not pull in the channels that this TV set does. Literally, I get twice as many digital channels on this set as my other digital tuner box. Since this is only the second digital receiver box set that I have, I can't say the other one is just bad or this one is just good but one thing is for sure, this one is much better as far as channels pulled in than my other. Analog TV reception is just acceptable but nothing spectacular. Given the fact that analog is going away in 1.5 years, it's not something I would consider an issue either way.
Functionality of the TV menu system and remote is intuitive. It has great contrast for a LCD screen. Audio is clear and crisp however it is a bit low as one other review stated however, not out of the ordinary for a small TV. (Side note: one solution to this is to buy a cheap FM modulator that plugs into the standard 3.5mm headphone jack to broadcast the audio to your stereo or radio. This will allow you to get greater volume control as you will also have the amplification of your FM tuner as well as the volume of the TV itself.). I want to reiterate, the sound volume is not out of the ordinary for a small TV. I have a 13 inch tube TV that does not get as much volume out as this set gets. I think the one person who gave it a one star only because of the low audio volume is totally off base. The person must have expected to get large TV sound from a small TV. I've owned more than several small TVs and this one is better than the normal as far as audio level output.
The only reason I would negate from a score of 5 stars are as follows:
a) Viewing LCD from below perpendicular from the screen makes the output contrast and brightness less. Much less if viewing from below perpendicular more than 2 feet. That is, if you have the TV higher than you and it's not pointed down towards you, you will be disappointed in the picture. The solution to this is to tilt the screen such that it's aimed lower than your eyes. Viewing from perpendicular and above is perfect as far as picture quality. Also, side to side viewing is not bad up to 30 degrees off center (a big improvement over a older type LCD).
b) Digital tuner is great however there could be a much better GUI to view what's on other channels or what other channels are there. That is, the only way you'll know what digital channels you get are to scroll up and down the channels. Seems rather archaic to me. You'd thing you could look at what is available at a glace.. Not from this set.. With that said, the set user interface does include adding "favorite channels" so once you know the channels available, you can save your favorites up to 12 stations.
Other than those two things, it's a great TV and perfect in every way IMO. There are a lot of likable things about this TV that I didn't cover including the fact that it plays VCD and DivX DVDs along with standard DVDs. It also has multiple inputs including Color Stream HD input. It also has audio sound control to auto adjust sound-levels making commercials the same volume as the show not to mention the fact that is has a feature called CableClear to adjust for the imperfections of analog video. These are just a few of the out-of-norm features you likely will not find in other TVs.
