SOMEONE TURNED UP THE HEAT
As always, Emerald provides fresh tasting, crisp nuts (we're especially fond of their almonds). Now, comes the "but" regarding these Sea Salt & Pepper Cashews - someone had a heavy hand with the pepper. For us, they're really hot, too spicey to be eaten by the handful and even in smaller quantities we find ourselves reaching for something to drink.
They are also tasty, definitely a different flavor for cashews. Perhaps a cocktail buffet would be a good place for them where people will just use a spoon to serve themselves several. But, (there's that word again) - we didn't find them appropriate for snacking or nibbling while watching TV.
Excellent nuts ruined by an intolerable seasoning.
I was sincerely looking forward to enjoying this product and reviewing it, however, it's hard to sing the praises of anything when the roof of your mouth is on fire.
Emerald Sea Salt & Pepper Cashews is a good idea gone terribly wrong. The nuts are wonderful. I plan on soaking off the seasoning and using them in a chicken recipe. But there is no possability I could eat them as the manufacturer has served them up.
To be sure that this was not some oversensitivity on my part, I offered the cannister to a friend -- casually and without comment. He ate two or three and begged me for a beverage to clear his mouth, saying he thought he must be "allergic" to something in them, because they "made his mouth burn."
I'm just baffled that the seasoning is this unpleasantly strong yet sold in a cannister that suggests a mild freshness. I truly regret that I could not give Emerald Sea Salt & Pepper Cashews a higher rating.
Ruins a Good Cashew
As part of the Vine Voice program, I received a canister of these nuts.
I love cashews...that said, Emerald Sea Salt and Pepper Cashews are greasy and too salty and have no discernible cashew flavor, as those ingredients overpower the flavor of cashew. I would not purchase this product, as it contains sugar and maltodextrin.
