Easy to use and stable5
If you're like me and want the absolute best quality transfers from your VHS tapes to DVD, here's the steps I took to get the desired results. I'm not writing about how to setup your VCR to your computer; only the settings within the VHS to DVD capture video options.

1) When you launch the capture video option in RC09, always select DV as your quality option. Note that a full 2 hour VHS tape will create a 25 or so gigabyte AVI file, so make sure you have a large capacity hard drive with plenty of free space.
2) Unless the tape is too light or too dark, I would leave the custom video adjustments alone. Your call on these settings.
3) Once the VHS tape is captured, launch the application SYNC IT! within the Roxio Creator user interface. Locate the settings options, and make sure it is set to MPEG2 output (this is set by default, but still check). Now locate the AVI file created by RC09. Drag and drop the file into the Sync It!"eye". The conversion usually lasts around two hours, so go take a break.
4) Once the conversion is complete, you will have a new MPEG2 file around 4.75 to 5 gigs in size. This file is now ready to be trimmed, polished up and made into a DVD.

Another important note is that when you convert the MPEG2 file to DVD VOBs, the compilation usually comes in around 5.5 gigs (and that's without DVD menus). I use DVD+R_DL discs to ensure a maximum quality DVD burn without compression of the VHS capture.

I've tried the other quality settings in the Roxio capture feature, and in my opinion none are better than capturing with your tape in DV. Results may vary, but I am enjoying superb quality VHS transfers following these steps. Hope this helps those wondering :)

Oh, and I highly recommend the special edition of RC09, to get the VHS to DVD video adapter hardware. The setup is a cinch, and the application very easy to use.

First Attempt to Record to DVD Failed! (As did all the rest...)1
I decided to purchase this product specifically to record ONE old out of print vhs to DVD and upgrade my music library from Roxio Creator 6. The software/USB adapter loads the feed from the VCR w/o problem-looks and sounds great! However, recording to DVD has not been as successful. I have tried everything prescribed by Roxio online FAQs: updating firmware/drivers, etc, etc. NO LUCK so far. I am waiting for online support to help but I am NOT optimistic. Upon loading the new version, my music library was intact from the old but no playlists are to be found with the new! I fear that I probably will need to recreate them myself in the new version. Good thing I haven't dumped my old version. BEWARE! Nothing is ever easy nor works like claimed!Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition with VHS to DVD Adaptor Last comment: Roxio online help is responsive but after hours of updating firmware, uninstalling/reinstalling, etc, etc. I returned the software to the store where purchased and bought the Sony VRD-MC5 multi-function DVD recorder. In less than 5min I was recording the VHS tape and it plays on every DVD player I own! Forget Roxio and spend the extra money for the Sony!

Can be a good deal to buy Creator & adaptor together4
I got such a good deal that there was little difference between buying the software alone or the software plus adaptor. Roxio keeps it easy to use interface with even more improvements. Easier to find and the most used programs seem to open in the main page. That makes the programs load quicker. The related program is the media importer section. I plugged in the adapter and I could see my vcr image. Very quick and easy way to preserve videos onto digital. Many dvds options and I can't say what is used the most these days. At least I know that this program will lead me through the right steps to come out witht he right format.
