| Yes, your storekeeper is a California fisherman. Since catching his first trout in the Santa Ynez River in 1957 (try that nowadays), he has fished hundreds of creeks, rivers, bays, reefs, breaks, rocks, and even oil derricks. FOGHORN is the best all-around series here. But there are plenty of titles that cover regional and specialty fishing. If you like to fly fish, my recommendation is CALIFORNIA BLUE RIBBON TROUT STREAMS. San Jose Mercury News outdoor sports columnist and nature enthusiast Bill Sunderland is a meticulous fly fisherman and a careful, detail-oriented writer. This book includes maps, sound fishing advice, and detailed instructions on finding and fishing the very best trout streams this state has to offer. If you're into California's primest trout habitats, this book is for you. Tedious as our two "DUMMIES" titles might sound, there's a lot to be said for the concept. They're funny, fast-paced and useful, and they never talk down to the novice. Good choices for beginners. | ||
